If losing weight were so easy would half the people we know in our

lives have weight problems? My ex-wife has a problem. I have watched

her struggle and try. The one time I was at my highest I joined her

on one diet and I only was able to do it because I was trying to help

her. Otherwise, I never would have been successful. But having seen

her battles I get so infuriated when anyone, doctor or otherwise,

makes it sound easy or like a character issue. Do they really think

anyone chooses to be overweight? What stupidity and cruelty at the

same time.

Oh save me from smug slimmers who've managed to lose a few pounds at weight watchers Like you said, if it was easy, there wouldn't be a problem in the first place. I'm on steroids, although I try to get about, I have to be careful as my sats fall quite quickly. I'm also on warfarin, and you're not supposed to change your habits overnight with those either.

The French have a phrase for "too late wit" "L'esprit de l'escalier (literally, stairway wit) is a French term that describes the predicament of thinking of the right comeback too late. The phrase can be used to describe a riposte to an insult, or any witty, clever remark that comes to mind too late to be useful?when one is on the "staircase" leaving the scene."

I think we've all had that ^^^

IGNORANCE OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION ON WEIGHT

20 Years ago the profession looked largely at mental illness as a

character flaw. They didn't understand the chemicals the body

produces nor any other aspects of it.

Today 80% of the profession still looks at weight in the same way.

They say reduce fats. We eat less fats than ever and we're heavier.

That is fact. They say its just a matter of calories in and out.

Well, not true. I can offer proof anytime. I lost 40 pounds a few

years ago in three months averaging probably 2500 calories per day

and not exercising. I did this on low carb. But according to them

this is impossible. Now some do understand the effect of carbs on so

many of us and others understand a bit of the genetic implications

and others understand that with some the issues are very different

than with others. There isn't a one plan fits all. Its complex.

Everything about out body and serotonin and insulin production and

processing of sugars and fibers and good and bad carbohydrates and

exercise. Why have they made so little progress in understanding?

Because their ignorance led them to ignore the whole field and not

research weight issues. Why do people spend more money over the

counter on weight loss than any other non-prescription remedies?

Because they medical profession hasn't offered help and people are

trying anything, even some very dangerous remedies.

You go to the doctor with a cold or infection or flu, does he blame

it on you? Does he tell you that its your fault for coming in contact

with a germ somewhere? But they sure blame weight on you. They have

no idea of how long and hard the battle is. Do they grasp that if you

need to lose 100 pounds and do it at one pound a week you have to

fight to stay on target for two years. Its not like taking an

antibiotic for 10 days and being well.

Do they understand the withdrawal pains the changes in eating habits

cause? That if you are one who has some form of eating addiction you

have the one addiction you can't go cold turkey on. Thats why many do

medifast and such because its the nearest to Cold Turkey, but do they

grasp how hard it is to live on a liquid concoction and no food when

food is all around you?

A neurologist lectured my ex wife once while in the process of doing

a spinal tap. Can you imagine more cruelty? The assisting technician

apologized on behalf of the hospital next time he saw her a year

later. But when she asked if the doctor could recommend a program

that might help her, he said " none of those work, its just will

power " . Fortunately, she told him off before I did. He thinks he was

spoken to harshly. He got off easy.

I could lose some and I intend to but I also know its easier for men.

Our bodies function differently in that regard so doing the exact

same thing, men lose faster. But most male doctors don't even

understand that.

Weight is a major medical issue and yet how many bariatric doctors do

you know? Have your other doctors ever referred you to one? If

someone came in and you found they had cancer, would you just tell

them " you need to get rid of it. "

They treat you like you don't know you're overweight too. " You need

to lose weight. " Oh, no s... Sherlock, you think I didn't know that?

Help me, don't lecture me and scold me with false outdated medically

disproven old wives tales.
