Guest guest
You might want to ask the doc to test him for ongoing Strep bacteria. Strep bacteria can cause the onset of OCD and/or Tourettes... look on the internet for information about PANDAS. Just type it in a search engine like that-- all capitals. If it is strep related, it can be treated. Guest guest
I've read all about the strep connection, and I am really curious about this. He is prown to strep infections. I'm also going to take him to my allergist. I've read a lot about tics and allergies being related, and allergies run in our family. Guest guest
What kind of doctor would do the test for PANDAS? Is it a neurologist? I am very curious to this because has had lots of problems with strep infections. Guest guest
Suzi, I don't know much about the testing-- I know you want to get someone who knows what they are doing... maybe this post can help So I can ask a doctor for Anti-DNAase B or Antistrptolysin (ASO) titer? What is Immunoscience Beta Strp Antibodies? Is that a lab or another test? I have a friend who has an OCD 9 year old. I suspect strep because of all his infections earlier. Maybe these are names of specific tests that someone mentioned... anyway, don't rule out that your family has this virus in the family-- passed from generation to generation. I know the antibiotic treatment for strep has to be done within a certain time frame, so I don't know if that has passed, but even still, you may be able to do other supplements to strengthen the immune system to help the body fight it off such as monolaurin, lauricidin, and/or sambucol (elderberry extract). I think the first two are available on the internet and are pretty good... sambucol you can buy at a health food store. These are all things that would be given long term. I don't know if they would be powerful enough though, but if the time frame has passed for antibiotic help, then perhaps these might help? I don't really know for sure. Guest guest
Hi Suzi: Anyone can order the test - it is called the ASO, or anti- streptolysin O titer. It is a blood test, and the result comes back pretty quickly. You want to get the test when the symptoms are at their peak, and not when your child is between attacks. Guest guest
Dr. Laveman, Are you a dev. pediatrician, or neurologist? Where in Northern NJ? I have a 21 month old, and he has an expressive language delay, not sure if he's showing components of apraxia or not. Thanks, [ ] Re: Son has Tourette Syndrome Hi Suzi: Anyone can order the test - it is called the ASO, or anti- streptolysin O titer. It is a blood test, and the result comes back pretty quickly.
