Hi,

Can anyone out there give me some insight as to what may or may not be

happening with the insurace law. I was told it is supposed to go into

effect in 2009. Does anyone know it this will help all childen on the

spectrum or just those with a specific dx of autism.

Thank you

Thank you for the information. FYI, if the compact group does not come up with anything, then the insurance companies will be mandated to provide the coverage to the group you mentioned.

The reality is that the insurance industry will try to come up with a lower figure than the $36,000.00 annual amount in the mandate and any company who signs up for the compact will not have to do the mandate. I am sure they will look to find ways to get around the whole thing, but only time will tell. You are probably correct, that they will wait to the end.

According to my insurance company the companies won't get the correct wording of the policies until Feb. 2009, and maybe start writing them in April 2009. Until they start with their attornies....who knows?

Hello,

A friend did an exhaustive review of the autism insurance bill passed

last session, you can review it here:

http://www.butterflyeffects.com/community/articles_florida-autism-

legislation-who-will-benefit-who-will-not-and-why.aspx

The law that passed may cover up to 14% of autistic children Statewide,

and that number could go to 0% depending on what the " compact' group

agrees to.

Companies that are self insured, have less than 50 employees, and a few

other exclusions are exempt from the mandate.

In current news the " compact " group that was supposed to meet today has

been cancelled. The insurance companies did not submit a proposal and

so the next meeting will be Dec 17th. This is most probably a tactic to

go right to the deadline and thereby not alloy time for debate or to

amend.

During the session the insurance industry in all the hearings in both

the Senate and the House said only one sentence:

" We oppose all mandates "

The mandate as written would increase premiums .38%

Needless to say, the Insurance Industry was well represented in

Tallahassee, there are 124 registered lobbyists for the healthcare

insurance industry in Tallahassee.
