Guest guest
I listened to this workshop, and I agree with the caution. Mr. LaBelle is pushing a pooled trust - which may work for those families whose special need children have no siblings available/ willing to administer a " regular " special needs trust. BUT if you do have siblings, then you probably do not want the fees/ inflexibility of a nonprofit trustee (pooled trust). The main benefit I received from Mr.LaBelle is the importance of establishing a SNT as soon as possible (well before the child reaches 18) - no one know how long this exception will remain in the law - and with the new President in place, my husband and I are not confident that the option will always be there to open one. A far more thorough presentation on both the issues of guardianship and SNT's is the one I heard by Greenberg (CFP and parent of an adult child with autism). Her (live) workshop was free and also included an " elder attorney " from our area who specializes in SNT's. Even if you do not use their services, the presentation is very informational and helpful. and her husband are founders of Prosperity Life Planning located in Delray Beach. . (I have no affiliation with them.)
