calendar and register for the next "Weekend With the Experts" ESE parent workshop to be held on Saturday, November 8th. Additional information is listed below. Parents will receive helpful resources, including the book on "From Emotions to Advocacy: The Special Education Survival Guide" Second Edition (c. 2007) by nationally recognized authors (Pete , Attorney and Pam ). To register call Parents Services at or e-mail me (kimberly.diluzio@...) your name, address, phone number and e-mail address. There is a $10.00 registration fee to attend the November 8th workshop (check or money order made out to: School Board of Broward County) and financial assistance is available. November 8, 2008 (9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.) Navigating the ESE Process: Advocating for Your Child’s Unique Educational Issues Participants will learn how to become more active participants in their child’s education. This workshop is designed to familiarize parents with effective strategies in advocating for their child as active members of the IEP team. Information will be shared about special education and how parents can ensure their child is receiving effective and appropriate services, changes in IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) 2004, IEP process, Extended School Year (ESY), and accommodations. Presenters: Ann Siegel, Attorney, Children’s Advocacy Program, Educational Legal Rights, Legal Aid Service of Broward County Stacey Hoaglund, Family Support Specialist, Family Network on Disabilities of Broward County ACE (Autism Committee of ESE) ACE is a parent driven group that meets regularly with school administrators to support autism programming in Broward County Public Schools.

By working collaboratively at the school and district level, we pledge to promote reasonable student-teacher ratios and proven teaching techniques so that each child on the autistic spectrum may demonstrate continual progress in an effort to reach his or her potential.
