Hi,

From my own experience and what I've read from others who have been in bad

flares, prednisone is a necessary evil. Sometimes not even the SCD is enough to

control UC or CD until you've successfully come out of the flare, often with

the help of meds. Once out of the flare, SCD is a great way of managing the IBD.

So, even though you dread being on prednisone for another 2 months, in the long

run, it will benefit you if it gives your gut more time to heal and stops the

bleeding. Try soft foods on SCD (doesn't have to be just the intro diet, but

you can start there), along with the pred until you get the flare under control.

Once that happens, you can then try other SCD foods.

I'm a small person, and my dr. put me on a very high dose of pred (50 mg) when I

was hospitalized for a flare last May. Believe me, it was difficult, and I felt

fogged and sleep deprived for the first few months. Fortunately, the pred (plus

the SCD) helped to terminate the flare, and I've been off meds (after a gradual

taper) since August. Keeping fingers crossed..

Good luck!

Jill

I'm not sure what made it flare so bad but I called my doctor and he

wants to increase my prednisone back up to 20mg. This completely

depresses me! I HATE prednisone with a passion and have decided to

follow SCD in hopes of staying away from it! I have been on prednisone

sense September last year, and increasing adds another 2 months I will

be on it! I know a week is not enough time to tell if this diet will

work for me and if anything it has already helped my anxiety and

" brain fog " to some degree. I just have so many questions I don't have

answers to and do not know where to turn because I feel if I ask them

I will feel stupid or ignorant. So I guess I will just ask, given this

flare and the increased blood do I need to go back on the intro diet

and start all over? There is not a lot of frequency involved, I also

don't know whether I should just tough it out and stick to the diet

religiously and not increase the prednisone and see where that gets

me, but I don't want it to get too bad, I know no one will have that

answer but from personal experience does anyone have any opinions?

Thanks for reading if you've made it this far!
