The bottle calls for either two or three a day -- I'm not certain, as I don't have a bottle handy. However, I seem to recall Elaine saying to start with one per day, and only take more if it seemed as if you needed them. She was very cautious on the matter of taking mega-vitamins, feeling that a sufficiently nutritious diet should be able to provide most of what a person needed. However, in the early stages, when one's system is not absorbing things as well as it will later, she felt the vitamins were helpful. Some individuals find even a single multi too strong for them. I, personally, found that I needed significantly more, but that's because of my particular absorption issues. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
Eileen I'm probably too late with this post to help you, but I did want to warn you that if your body is like mine, you'll have to try several different brands and dosages of vitamins and multivitamins until you find one that works for you. I have to pay just as much attention to my body's signals after I take a vitamin/mineral supplement as I do with food. For example, I had a bad reaction to Freeda multivitamins and Freeda BComplex, even though they were SCD-legal. They were much too strong and high-dosage for my body to tolerate. I ended up using Kirkman Labs children's multivitamin (legal), and even then can only take it once a week. Bcomplex vitamins are no good for my body, and I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia (low B12) so I give myself B12 shots every 3 weeks. And so on. I do take mineral supplements, and a multivitamin, but I had to do a lot of testing before I settled into a routine. I think half of my symptom flares and immune responses were due to trying vitamin/mineral supplements that first year on SCD. Plenty of people on SCD do well with Freeda vitamins, but some of us don't. So, like foods, you'll have to just try them and see how you do. You may not be able to take a vitamin supplement every day either. Since we have digestive disorders, we need the extra nutrients so need to supplement. But there's no one solution that works for all of us, I'm afraid... Kim M.
