Joyce, What's the new docs name? Sounds like he knows his stuff from his credentials. Let us know how it goes on Monday. Joyce... I'm sorry the time has come for a hospital bed. No matter what I say it can't change what you are feeling about it. I imagine myself in your place down the road and I know what I would feel.

Good rest will compensate some. After awhile, let's hope you get used it.

warm hugs friend.

Re: doctors

Peggy,

He called the University Hospital here and set me up with a new pulmonary physician that just came there from Duke. For evaluation, treatment and consult. His background is at Jewish and Duke. He specializes and has been published many times in prominant journals, etc. He is seeing me on Monday.

I definatly do not want to change doctors, but Dr. O thinks I can see the new guy as a consult doc. Since his practice dropped my insurance, it is getting dicey. I told Dr. O that I would see this guy and jump through the hoops, but I did not want him to stop being my doc and that I wanted him there when final decisions had to be made. I want to be a real person to the doc making those decisons.

Well, I gave in and ordered my hospital bed. They will bring it in a couple of weeks. They told me that they would put an air mattress overlay with a pump on it, so that it is comfortable. The doc has been bugging me for months to get it. Aaaargh! I don't like what it respresents. But, I would like to sleep occasionally.

Joyce...this subject of dying, sooner or later, is so hard. We "know" you and I'm so sorry your progression brings what it brings now. Damnit!

I can't even tell you to hang in there. I know you are doing all you can and even more.

I do pray for you and your comfort and your tolerance.

Re: doctors

Bruce,

I filed for a continuity of service due to terminal illness, and appealed. Got me nowhere. He saw me last week and spent an hour with me. He said he would handle the bill. ???? Whatever that means. I will just see him out of network and what it costs, it costs. I told my husband that I was not going to be around to spend my part of our retirement savings, so spend it on the doctor that I want.

I asked Dr. O'Brien if he would be there for me when I died and he said he would. He will stick with me, regardless of insurance. But, it does present a problem for admitting to hospital. But, there is a way around. Just gotta play the game.
