Guest guest
Mindy, It's interesting, those women who don't care about their rosacea. They may have more peace of mind, but it is a progressive disease, and will get worse if not treated. At least that is what I have read. Since I've been diagnosed, I have been noticing other people with rosacea. The worst cases I've seen are in older men. I think it is because men (traditionally) don't fuss over their skin, so they are more likely to ignore the problem. As a result it gets much worse. We have time and knowledge on our side, and hopefully can stop the progression, maybe even reverse it. As for skin allergies, they are very real. I get some weird ones, and my derm told me not to fret about it, skin allergies work the same way as respiratory allergies. Think of it as your skin sneezing. Personally, I'd rather have the skin allergies. People with severe respiratory allergies can suffocate without the help of antihistamines. (no subject) I visited a new derm today who specializes in dermatologic surgery because I am thinking about getting a laser treatment. My rosacea mainly consists of telangiectasia on my cheeks, nose, and chin. He has recommended for me, the cynosure pulsed-dye laser. The cost depends on how big the area is, my first and only visit will be $630.00. He says it will clear 90% with only one treatment. He showed me several pictures and I also know a guy who had this done by him (with severe rosacea) and he looks great, and you can't even tell the man has this disorder. Does anyone have any comments/suggestions regarding this type of treatment? Also, a little note about skin allergies. I woke up 2 weeks ago with wonderful little bumps all over my arms and legs that itched like crazy. It just amazes me that since I've been diagnosed with this disease, I wake up with all kinds of crazy signs and symptoms of skin disorders. The derm that I saw today did a patch test (rubbed my back) and I was positive for hypersensitive skin. Anything that rubs against my skin, makes my skin go haywire. He recommends taking 10mg. of clariton daily until it goes away. I remember others posting about skin allergies, and wonder if this is also part of rosacea. I've also been losing my hair, and that's also another thing I remember reading that others had problems with. I'm only 31 soon to be 32, and I take too many meds. At least I'm young enough to remember when and how many to take. However, my mind will probably be the next thing to go. Does anyone else just wake up in the mornings with yet another problem to have to deal with? The funny thing is, I work with 2 women who have rosacea and they know they have it (very noticeable, classic textbook cases) and they have never been to any derms or docs regarding their problems, nor do they complain of any discomfort. They don't buy special products, nor do they put any meds on their faces. I think that this is a psychological issue. They say they don't even think about it. It's so unreal. I have come to realize that this disorder is caused by something within (the derm today also stated this) and whatever you do on the outside is just a coverup. I truly believe that even using topicals will make the disease progress. I myself am a good example of this. If you could have seen me 6 months ago, you couldn't even tell I had rosacea, you would just see a few blood vessels. People didn't even notice it. However, since I started with the topicals and specials soaps, it has progressed and my skin has become more sensitive and rosacea is more noticeable. Years ago, they didn't have all of this added crap in their soaps, nor was the environment in such bad shape. Our bodies absorb everything. I chalk it all up to that. I think I'm going to lay low on all the topicals and soaps that I use on my face. This may sound gross, but I never even used to wash my face with soap, only with water. Had a very nice complexion. Started using fancy face creams and AHA's and I think that help me either. If I only knew then what I know now.
