I am wondering how tight is too tight (or too loose) on the splint. The people who set us up with it in Iowa City didn't explain a thing to me about how to adjust it for proper fit and benifit, except to say I should have brought socks (who knew? ha ha) and putting lotion on his feet was a dumb idea...I think that man was having a bad day when I arrived there.

At a "comfortable" snugness, as I might lace a sneaker, his feet slide around inside it a little bit, but if I lace it tight enough to prevent this slippage, it seems too tight. The leather has already softened up and "broken in" quite a bit in just five days, so I see his feet almost walking over the edge of the shoes as if he was flat-footed (no arches in his feet) unless I have them pulled as tight as possible...

I am pulling the buckle strap as tight as I can when I put the boots on him, also, before I tighten the laces.

Another thing, when I take the splints off in the morning (he only wears them at night), he has a large angry red spot on his heel (both heels), is that normal? He's not walking a blister on it, the redness is there after a night in bed. Help?

Keep in mind he's 22 months and 25+ pounds, active crawling and standing and even attempting to walk in this splint, during the little time he has it on before I put him in bed.

Advise if you can please! :)

thanks,

shawnee
