Guest guest
You guys are great! I didnt go to the ER I called my aunt who is a EMT and talked to her, thats how we got my pulse but it took forever because my husband couldnt find a pulse on me. I swallowed a huge swig of benadryl in hopes to counter act the antibiotic. It is the only thing that I could think of. I have never had anxiety but that doesnt mean I dont know. I wont be taking that antibiotic any more. Bruce - it was my 3rd night taking it its just once a day so I was already taking it at night because the first time I took it , it made me feel a little whoozy, if thats a word. O2 thats a good one Bruce I dont take Oxygen crap that cant even get me diagnosed but I will tell you after last night I am going to find me a few things I need to have here at home. There is nothing like feeling your airway close down on you, and thats what my throat felt like I had to pace and walk for over 2 hours I finally couldnt keep my self standing any more and sat down on the edge of the bed, the fan in my face and just sat there, finally a while passed and I was able to get myself to lay down, I laid there just doing my breathing and calming myself down and finally I said if I dont take my sleeping pill I will doing this all night so if something is going to happen then it would happen otherwise I need some sleep. I took it and a little while later must have passed out. Probably for the better. So I am thinking it was a little anxiety but the majority was a reaction to that drug, that is a wicked drug! Because like I said I have never had anxiety. You feel like your airway is closing off, your pulse is beating fast, your breathing gets quicker, and this tremendous amount of fear comes over you like gosh I am going to stop breathing or pass out. So I guess this calls for a day of nothing! I have a friend who just had some more cancer removed from her foot going to go over there and change her bandage and bring her a little goody bag then home to take care of my Rudy - who is coming home this morning! Thanks to all of you for your answers you will never know how appreciative I am to know that some one is always here! Guest guest
Thanks for letting us know you're ok. I realize they haven't gotten you diagnosed but what do your oxygen levels do under activity? Do you know? Because I can assure you that your anxious pacing was probably more than being on a treadmill. > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking I am > > > > having > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
Yes - definitely glad to hear you are OK this morning. Anxiety feels a little different from what you were describing. It feels like the walls are closing in, you get sort of a tunnel vision, the heart rate goes up. Getting up and pacing would make all that worse, not better, if you were having an anxiety attack. Take it easy today. S. NSIP w/PF 12/2006 Celiac > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking I am > > > > > having > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
While I think it probably was her meds, anxiety does take many different forms with different people or even at different times and depending on the level. While it can immobilize you, it can also make you unable to remain still and, hence, pace, not because pacing helps but because you feel compelled to do so. Also, the walls closing in part is not always the case. It can just manifest itself in so many ways. Now a panic attack does tend to be more consistent and force you to sit, immobilize you, even paralyze parts of your body, and make you feel like things are closing in. It also often includes tremors. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking > I am > > > > > > having > > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
Sandie, I am glad you are better. I have taken Avelox many times and I always take it at bedtime. Even though I am not a doctor, it sounds as if you are allergic to it. I know from experience that one can get allergic even after several days. I am allergic to an IV antibiotic, Primaxim (sp?). Guest guest
Hi Sandie, I hope you're doing fine now! I can understand the situation and it's very frightening when an allergic reaction is happening. I was on antibiotics since last Friday on Keflex 500mg 4 times a day (for toe cellulitis). Took them as prescribed, didn't miss a dosage, and Friday morning I woke up with a swollen hand(it looked like 2 apples). During the week I was very tired, lightheaded and short of breath. I just said oh, it must be from work, not eating properly etc... I know Keflex causes causes a lot of diarrhea, short of breath might be from PF etc...(all these excuses going through my mind). I even called my Rheumatologist, got an appointment to see her on Tuesday because I thought it might be from the Raynaud's or the Crohn's related Arthritis. I went up and told my supervisor at lunch time, I'm going home. Asked me why, showed him my hand and goes that's OK, you can go. I went sat at my desk, when it was nearly time to leave, closed the computer etc....another supervisor asked me are you leaving, I said yes....she asked the reason I show her my hand and says oh my god, go go and ice it at home. Instead of going home I went to the closest ER. In the morning I had taken pictures of my hand with my cell phone and showed the dr the before and after pictures...because the swelling had decreased a bit not a lot. As it turns out it was an allergic reaction to Keflex. He gave me injection meds to prevent the allergic reaction from spreading and meds for itchiness/scratching. Checked my breathing and BP. Was asked to stay for 30 minutes....vital signs were taken again and was discharged. Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking I am having an anxiety attack. I dont have anxiety or at least I didnt think so. I may also be having an allergice reaction. My pulse is a little high about 96 I dont have a oximeter or a blood pressure cup but they are on my list to get as soon as I have some money. Our dog the baby has been sick since December and I brought him back to the vet yesterday because he was getting sick again. He was scheduled for an ultrasound next week but we moved it up to today, my husband stayed home from work so he could bring him over to the next town and meet the ultrasound doc and have it done in another vet. Any ways he had a blockage ad we had to take him back to our vet and have surgery done I think this threw me over the edge. Now I just feel very funny, I feel like my airway is closing in on me. I feel dizzy, lightheaded, very sleepy and tired. but unable to calm down or relax and when I talk to anyone I tend to get more worked up, so I found walking through the house over and over is helping but I cant kick the feeling. The medication is an antibiotic and its name is: Avelox 400 mg take one a day. has anyone experienced anything like this? Thanks Sandie Ps. I am hoping some one is up late and on here because I am scared! Meet the new AOL.ca. Free radio, music, videos, news & entertainment – with a Canadian perspective. Guest guest
Sandie... I know the feeling of your throat closing...when I found I was allergic to contrast dye (like for C-scans) my throat began to close and my breathing became labored and so on. Fortunately Dr. was right there. An awful feeling. Glad you are up and out to a friend. Enjoy the weekend Mama-Sher, 69; IPF, 3-06, OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Re: Anxiety? Guest guest
I am not sure Bruce they didnt tell me when I was in for the pulmonary stress test. They asked if I had high blood pressure and I said NO, they said your sure and I said yes I take verapamil for migraines so my blood pressure never should be high especially with that. Well with exercise it goes to 198/94 and I become very weak and tired. The only other comment they said was your all done and I said well I dont think its my heart or lungs that is the problem, she said well your lungs seem fine. Made me think about it when I was leaving why they said my lungs seem fine but not my heart too?? I still havent gotten the results back. And after this mess I have been in the last few days I dont know what to think. I know your not supposed to give people your medication but my friend has anxiety and she gave me some of her anxiety pills she said just try it if it doesnt work then you know its probably not anxiety but you really should go to the ER and get checked out. Here is my issue with the ER: Not one doctor has taken the time to find out what is wrong with me. I am the one SUFFERING, not them, they arent listening to me when I tell them SOMETHING IS WRONG, I dont know what and I dont know how to explain it to them but something is wrong, something is preventing me from breathing correctly. they have put me through just about every test pulmonary wise and find nothing conclusive. And then when anyone hears you have been to the Mayo Clinic they just say well they did the same thing I would have done without any regard to looking at my history or listening to me just like brushing me off. I dont want people thinking I am some crazy person or some hypochondria and thats what i feel like going to the doctor and they tell me they cant find anything. I dont know anymore maybe I am crazy, maybe its all in my head but then I am the one who cant catch my breath, maybe its like that lung doctor says I am just out of shape. I dont have the answers I just know I am tired of doctors, tired of not knowing, tired of fighting a system I cant seem to win so I guess waiting is all I can do, which is very sad because one person shouldnt have to suffer. Guest guest
See I didnt think it was anxiety because I only got a little relief so I think there may have been some anxiety but not what was the main cause of my problem. My friend also told me you get sweaty and she said walking would make that worse too. I tried every technique even the ones Joyce posted the other day with the breathing techniques they didnt work either. So yesterday to get my mind off of everything I picked my dog up at the vet and then went over to take care of my friend for a little while. She just had another HUGE peice of her foot removed with Cancer in it, she needed to go to the pharmacy, the store and get some bandages (if she would have told me that I could have stopped and gotten it all for her but I suppose she wanted to get out) then I came home, I had already taken an anxiety pill at her house, so when I got home it had only been about 4-5 hours but I took another one, and again in about 4-5 hours later I took another one, I had such a hard time breathing last night even with my sleeping pill which usually knocks me out, but every two hours I was up, which was fine because I got the puppy home from the vet and he can only have 2 tablespoons of wet food every 2 hours with one cup of water, and he is starving so that way I kept him a little more comfortable. Guest guest
The weird thing is I dont feel anxious today at all. I dont feel I need to take the pills, I dont feel anything. I feel sore, and of course my sinuses are killing me because I cant take that antibiotic. I have no experience with anxiety or panic attacks as I have always been well controlled and put together and just always handled a great deal of stress. I am not saying that no one else is that way or thats why they get anxiety/panic attacks. I guess what I mean its just frustrating of why now, why all the sudden would that happen. And why today do I still feel like I cant breath that something is blocking my airway! Guest guest
STOP THE UNPRESCRIBED ANXIETY MEDS NOW! Sorry to yell, but you don't know possible contraindications with your other meds. Similarly, not knowing what you are taking, without proper supervision, you can get easily hooked to something not really right for you...look at the times you've repeated them just in your post. Now, get to doctor and if you have anxiety, get to psychiatrist and get them prescribed. There are so many kinds and the reactions of each of us to each is so different. Some made me more anxious, some just made me sleep. I am sorry to yell, but having had friends hooked on such they were getting on the street or online, when they needed something else, I'm just concerned. And, knowing how they might dangerously interact with something else you're taking, I'm more concerned. Now, take all this anger, anxiety and everything else and go use it on those who can help. Make them do so, please. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking > > I am > > > > > > > having > > > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
Maybe because something is blocking your airway? Maybe because of hypertension? Maybe because of lack of oxygen? Really, we can't know, but you must find someone to figure it out. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am > thinking > > > I am > > > > > > > > having > > > > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
Awh see I new if I told you all I was taking some one elses meds I knew Bruce would be the one to say something to me! I did my homework and i looked it up and checked the other meds I take and by the way I pretty much stopped all the other meds. I take sudafed with ephadrine in it like 4-5 times a day which you all know it isnt good for your heart. But I have taken it now for about 6 years some schedule same dose and everything I tell all the doctors yet they dont seem to get that it is bad for you and they dont seem to get that I take it to stay awake because I fall over a sleep even when I drive, I get this awful overcoming feeling of needing sleep and just have to close my eyes even after getting hours and hours of sleep. And Bruce I will call my doctor on monday as I need a different antibiotic so I will tell her about the meds I took as well. not that anyone is going to do anything about it. Guest guest
Ok....I would look for a primary physician in a large practice as they do seem to monitor each other at least some. Spill your guts to him and beg for help. Let him feel the pain we all do. Make sure you get an extended appointment. Share all your frustrations. I know it seems like starting over at the beginning. But sometimes we take a turn that gets us so off track we need to. Personally at my age, I'd look for an experienced primary too, not too young. I do like young people, but they can't relate generally to aging or the magnitude of health issues we face as well. Or, if there is another hospital near you....I don't know where you are.....find a doctor there. But still I think a very good primary could help point you. Just let everything flow out when you're with him. I know sometimes we're much too in control of our emotions with our doctors and they don't see our desparation. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am > > > thinking > > > > > I am > > > > > > > > > > having > > > > > > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
Oh Bruce you do motivate me but I just dont have it in me not today. No I havent been to a neurologist my old RA doc put me on the verapamil for the migraines I started to get them about 15 years ago I was in a very bad car accident some kid made an illegal left turn coming at me and sent my car soaring through a school parking lot, and skimming next to a garage then out onto a street and through a garage door and if the guy wouldnt have had a huge cement wall for the back of his garage they said my car would have kept going. I dont remember anything from the accident I was in and out of conscious. What I do know is I have a numb spot on my head and thats when I started getting headaches then migraines started. The Mayo is a few hours away for me maybe more like 3 hours and the only teaching hospital around here is the U of M or Regions. I have been to Regions they did all my surgeries. and my primary is from there, she is ok but she isnt listening these days either. So the best I can do is this. I am ordering the oximeter, the blood pressure machine, I already have a thermometer and I will just go from there. By the way I am not out of shape, maybe a few pounds overweight but by far not out of shape, 2 years ago I was riding 150 mile bike rides for MS. You just dont fall off the wagon like that. I will just have to figure out away to get this all togehter I just dont know how yet. sandie > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking > I > > am > > > > > > > having > > > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Guest guest
Oh I tried the local hospital no way in hell am I going back there! Excuse my french or whatever that is! Those are the people that cattled me like a herd of cows and treated what they could see and pushed me out the door, never once bothered to look beyond what was the cause, didnt even draw my blood when I was admitted. What kind of doctors are those? And I dont know I dont or do have high blood pressure but it hasnt been an issue for me, I took it again yesterday at the pharmacy when I took my friend it was 121/74 but my pulse was ninty something I didnt feel like it was racing but it was. Guest guest
Sandie....that's not unusual for a Doc to say they can't do it all 'right now'. It would take 2 hrs. There are other patients for her to see. Sounds like she did order testing. Did you do them? What were the results? Mama-Sher, 69; IPF, 3-06, OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Re: Anxiety? Allergic Reaction? Bruce your going to fall over when I tell you this. I did the note thing I wrote everything down that I could think of which was the most severe things and put them down, it was one page. I made my appt a few weeks ago and went to see her handed her the paper and said this is where i am at right now. She looked at me and looked at that and said I cant fix all them today. Thats when she set up the GI consult, ordered the ultrasound and said the lung doc will take care of those things. So what do you do then? Guest guest
Oh Joyce that is a good one, not that your asking but the ENT diagnosing. Remember I have this issue with my face swelling up and cellultis in my face. So after two hospitalizations and continal of them saying I have sinus infections which I never had one before, so they send me to an ENT now he doesnt practice at a hospital or anything he is one of those floating docs thats must have his own practice out some where else and comes to country hospitals once a month or something. Anyway I took my stuff to him and I said wouldnt a person with sinus stuff have trouble breathing through thier nose, he said yes! I said I dont he could even feel the lump in my face so he is the one who sent for an MRI - that is how they said I have ostemyletis that bone infection in my face he said I dont see anything in your sinuses. So then I took my stuff out to the U of M to the DIRECTOR of the maxofacial dentist school/clinic - he said you for certain have sinus disease. I said well the doctor who ordered the MRI said I dont he said I will call him and tell him different you for certain do. But to this day I havent gotten a call from them about the osteomyletis just a letter saying they are reviewing everything and will get back to me. That was the first part of december I got the letter the appt to see him was like November 18th or something. So thats why I am tired of doctors not one person is taking the time to look at everything its like I have several things going on so no one stops to look at the whole picture. Guest guest
Do you know what she ordered? The pelvic ultrasound, I dont have trouble with my pelvic or uterus or any of that but she wanted to rule out ovarian cancer. That came back fine I guess. No one has ordered a test of my throat or esphogus or anything like that, I do have the GI appt on the 31st of January not holding my breath but I will go.
