Guest guest
I'm the guy that has written about how living in Alaska is so ideal, how it is a veritable paradise....and much of the time it is, truly. However, today is one of those exceptions. It has been minus 20-25 degrees F for about 10 days. This morning it was minus 38 F. The frost heaves that move the ground up and down with the extreme changes in temperature sheared off the water pipe that runs from the well to the house, 10 feet under ground. We first discovered that we didn't have water at about 8am this morning. Thank God for my brother-in-law, his brother-in-law, my step son, and my wife......we just got the water back on at 5pm. The warmest it got today was -30. Unless you've experienced working outside in those conditions, you just can't imagine. The system is temporary until spring when we can get a backhoe to dig up the broken pipe and fix it properly. Of course.........all day long I've had to sit inside and watch out the window as other people fixed my problem..............I know, I know......I should gracefully accept their help. Of course, I do.........yet.....well, you know!!! The forecast for tomorrow says 10-25 above zero and snow and possible rain for Tuesday.............did I mention that this is a land of extremes?? Another day in paradise...... jim IPF 05 Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
