Guest guest
Hi Meg, Yes that first diagnosis of psedomonas auerogosa (spelling???) is a bit disconcerting. Anyway, most of the list just calls it " P.A. " You're right, the literature says that they all get it sooner or later. The problem is that once they get it, the bacteria can never be completely eliminated, just kept under control. Thus the Tobi (the inhaled version of Tobramycin), which is an antibiotic, as you thought. It is important to control it, as this is one of those bacteria that can do major damage to the lungs, if left unchecked. Originally Tobramycin was given via IV. But they found that inhaling it directly into the lungs did an even better job of controlling it. So that is the current standard of care. It is done for 28days on and 28 days off, indefinitely. The only down to it that I can see is that it is incredibly expensive; about $2000 per month!!! Hopefully you have insurance that will pay for this. The time it takes is also a pain, at least in my house, where the 10 year old can barely sit still long enough for the treatments. Good Luck! Guest guest
Hi Meg, 's doctor recultures her every few months, and whenever she is symptomatic. As far as other antibiotics, yes gets those, in addition to the TOBI, if she is symptomatic. Hope things go well.
