Guest guest
The lady who played Aunt Bee lived in Siler City, NC, which is why it was occasionally referenced on the Andy Griffith show. (Oh, my mother knew his first wife well, so post-divorce she wasn't a fan). Well, my Aunt Doris was actually Miss Siler City when she was young. > > > > > > > Hey there Doc!!! Guest guest
And as hard as it is to believe, times were much like that. My grandfather lived in a small NC town about the size of " Mayberry. " Everyone knew everyone. He thought the no parking area in front of the post office was a spot left just for him and no one ever said a word. They had their one diner. Mayberry was actually modeled after Mount Airy which was an hour or so north of my hometown. However, Mount Airy was larger than Mayberry. Mount Pilot was in reality Pilot Mountain. Of course, Raleigh was and is the state capitol and Siler City we discussed. Now if we could just get back the days of never locking your car and rarely if ever your house and not worrying, but keep the internet and all our modern conveniences. Ok, I'm greedy, I know. > > > > > > > > > Hey there Doc!!! Have you heard anyone talk about taking a > > shower with > > > > > the cannula in the other room? Guest guest
Even harder to believe, those little towns do still exist. Where I come from, in West Virginia, to this day, my house is never locked, our cars were never locked, we have one diner, the total elementary school enrollment this year is 54 (that's kindergarten through garde 5). My son's kindergarten class has 11 kids in it, and they were the largest class. There is no post office in our town, we have to travel 10+ miles to get to a post office. The coal mine where my husband works is 1/10 th of a mile from our house and most people in the area either work there, or have a relative or two that work there. The job of a coal miner is well paid and the community was very generous. When they learned of my illness, outpourings of support came from everywhere. Kaleb's kindergarten teacher even walked him home everyday, so I wouldn't have to walk to school to get him. It's what I miss the most about home. My friends. Our neighbors were older and they walked hand in hand every evening with their two chihuahuas right behind them. Often Kaleb would see them walking and yell, " Howdy, neighbor! " . When he would see them on their front porch, he would wonder over there and wait for an invitation to a glass of ice tea or a popsicle. I know it sounds unbelieveable, but that's where I come from. Yes, we were made fun of by some, " those West Virginians are all a bunch of redneck hillbillies " . Well, if that's the definition of a hillbilly, I am for sure one for life! God Bless, Tina IPF 04/07 Ohio > > > > > > > > > > > Hey there Doc!!! Have you heard anyone talk about taking a > > > shower with > > > > > > the cannula in the other room?
