On

January 5, Florida's lawmakers will come to Tallahassee for two weeks

to try and fix a projected $2.3 billion hole in the state

budget. The state's budget problems are too serious to wait

until the 2009 regular session, which begins in March. There are

many ideas floating around on how to fix the most recent budget

deficit.

The

Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC), working with the

advocacy group, Florida's People, Florida's Promise, is urging

lawmakers to find alternative sources of revenue to fund Florida's

budget before balancing the budget on the backs of Florida's working

families, retirees, and individuals with disabilities by cutting

services again and again to our public schools, health care and other

vital social programs.

Please

contact your lawmakers and urge them to look at the special interest

tax loopholes and tax breaks as a realistic, viable way to balance

Florida's budget.

You

can find the contact information for your state lawmakers by going to

www.flsenate.gov or www.myfloridahouse.com. These are the links

to the Florida Senate and the Florida House of Representatives.

Click on the link to locate your area's senator and

representative. Call, write, or email your

lawmakers as soon as possible and ask them not to make any more cuts

to our state budget - urge them to find other ways to pay the

bills. If you have questions or need assistance, contact the

FDDC by calling Toll Free at 1- or TDD Toll Free at

.
