I have also been wondering about the use of marijuana. My mother has asked

me many times to ask the doctor for an Rx for this, as she used to have a

prescription for it, but I would feel " weird " asking for something like

that. On the 1997 survey It is listed as one of the common medications used

(listed as number 6). Now I am one that is strongly against drug use, so I

have mixed feelings about it. If there are any of you out there that use it

(via a prescription) could you please contact me and tell me you experience,

how did the doctor react when you asked for it, and how well did it

work...etc.. There are many controversies about weather or not its

addictive and just about everything else that you can think of, but so is

codeine and many other of the drugs we take. I have a very high fear of

getting addicted to my medications so I like to change as often as possible,

but it is just so hard to find anything that works well.

The knowledge of ACM has changed a great deal since the '97 survey, so

doctors may not be giving a Rx for it now, but if they are and enough people

tell me it works well, I think I am willing to try just about anything these

days. I think one of my bigger fears about it is if I ask the doc for it,

would he take it wrong and think I'm a druggie? If that happened would he

possibly start to doubt the problems I am having?

Thanks for the help,

Looking for medications that help

i have acm, my mri showed 10mm+ herniation, however when surgery was

preformed the neurosurgeon, discovered it to be much worse, perhaps

15-20 mm. Appearantly my tonsils were pushed up inside my skull.

Now after surgery I has a neck-bubble filled with spinal fluid. I

may need more surgery. Somehow as a result, i have new symptoms i

never had, examples: i choke on everything, water, food, anything,

also i feel horribly depressed constantly, little or no balance,

dizziness constant hiccups (weird huh), very dry eyes, my hands

sometimes shake uncontrolably. I take flexeril, and darvacet daily

for surgical pain.

Have any of you found any medications that help. I have found one

near-miracle drug that has helped profoundly, marijuauna. Please

don't give me a hard time, I know it is illegal, but it has returned

to me my sanity. I have better balance, less shakes, no suicidal

thoughts, and sometimes I actually feel normal. Obviously i feel

hesitant about using pot, but seeing some of the new research being

done on medical uses of pot, I tried to see if it helped. It seems

to be a god-send. I may move to california where i would not be

arrested for this. In four states now, medical marijuana has been

allowed, no jail, no fine, and no persecution. I would like to know

what you think, and what medications you take that help you out.

I thought I would address this to the list. Before I had my second decompression

in

1998, my neurologist was hesitant to prescribe anything stronger than Vicodin. I

was in

constant, terrible pain.

I asked my neurologist about marijuana, and he said to give it a try. He didn't

provide

a Rx for me, so I had to go in search of it myself. Lucky for me, I know lots

of

freeze dried hippies! (local fdh, I didn't have to resort to the list :-) )

Once that was accomplished, I sat in wonder. I couldn't figure out how much to

smoke.

There wasn't a label, it didn't say take two puffs and call me in the morning.

I smoked a half a joint, passed out, and woke up feeling far worse than before

smoking

it. It was shortly after that that I found out laying down made my headache

much

worse.

So, one positive thing came out of my marijuana experience, and I sat up to

sleep from

that experience forward, but never smoked again. LOL

Many members might find relief from smoking or taking marijuana in pill form. I

believe

it should be legalized for medicinal purposes.
