I > thought that leaving the pyloric valve intact and functioning is > what helped prevent dumping etc.... Janice misunderstood what was being described. Rest assured, DS surgeries that are performed as first WLS (not revisions) ALWAYS retain the anatomy and functionality of the pyloric valve!!! If the surgery is a revision from another form of WLS, the pyloric function is returned IF possible to do so (ie. the vagus nerve wasn't cut or otherwise adversely affected by the previous surgery). Guest guest
My pyloric valve seems to be functioning quite well. In fact last night we had pizza for dinner (I only ate the toppings) and I was very full when I felt the pyloric valve open and my stomach start to empty. Guest guest
Hi Claudine, On my first visit to Dr Aslam's office, I was shown a PowerPoint slide show describing both procedures as well. The picture of the DS showed the intestine sown to the stomach much like you described it. When I questioned the nurse about it, she agreed that it was incorrect. When I showed Dr Aslam the picture of the DS from Heidi's site - he agreed that it was the procedure that he performs. I was kind of surprised that they were that careless with what they were showing people. I suggest that you double check with them about the pictures and see if it's an error too. Hugs, Melonie BMI 47 Pre-op Dr. Aslam ----- Original Message ----- I just recieved some information yesterday from Dr. Elinary's office. And the booklet they had in there > showing the two surguries (RNY and DS), showed the DS as having the > stomach horizontally cut and the small intestine stiched to the top > part, thus eliminating the pyloric valve>>
