I have been on the SCD for six years. I was diagnosed with UC at age

17. About 17 years later when I was having lots of sxs, I had a

colonoscopy that came out clean. I now believe that most likely I

have food allergies that are the primary problem. When I have any

unintentional wheat for example, my neck itches and I start wheezing.

I seem to react this way to other grains, too, but I'm not 100% sure.

I haven't had any food allergy testing because the allergists I

talked to here acted like I was a hypochondriac. They only see kids

with nut allergies it seems.

Within a week of doing the SCD I was symptom-free for the first time

in my life. I didn't know what it was like to have normal bowel

habits. About six months into the diet I went to Cancun. I was pg so

didn't even want to have a diet soda. The thought of having water the

whole time was so depressing that I ordered pineapple juice. Most

pineapple juice here is no added sugar. After a day of having the

pineapple juice in Cancun I was in the bathroom, cramping severely. I

checked out the label of what they were serving and sure enough, it

was loaded with corn syrup. I am really glad that happened, because

part of me wondered if I " really " had a problem with sugar/corn

syrup. The awesome thing was I met another woman in Cancun (we were

there for a sales meeting) who had UC and couldn't understand why her

D was so bad. She was eating rice every meal! I shared what I learned

with her and I hope it helped her.

Anyway, the SCD was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but

it's also been one of the greatest blessings. When people feel sorry

for me, I tell them don't. I feel sorry for those who do this diet

and still get no relief. I have never had surgery nor have I taken

any meds for what's wrong with me (whatever it is). An interesting

side note is that my mother has epilepsy and MS. She was also

diagnosed with diabetes and so cut way back on her sugar and grain

intake. Her MS improved dramatically. I haven't been able to convince

her to do the SCD, but I know in my heart of hearts if she did it,

she would be symptom-free. I was fudging on the diet for a while by

having a little corn syrup. My leg started getting numb and difficult

to move. I won't be continuing that habit!

Now allow me to get to the main reason for my post. I am a mother of

six and I love to have meal plans to make life easier. I use a lot of

savingdinner's low carb stuff (modified for my use), but I cannot

find a true meal plan for SCD'ers. Even cookbooks that promise this

really don't deliver. I just looked at www.mealoutlaw.com and thought

this would be wonderful for SCDers to share meal plans. Hopefully

there would be real, practical plans for busy families.

I've had a lot of people ask for my advice about this diet and I can

certainly help from a psychological standpoint (I'm a psychologist

who has never been able to stick with any diet before). I can also

talk about being on the diet while pg. I had 3 babies while on the

SCD. But I can't help with those of you on meds. I just don't have

any experience with it.

I do wish you well and I would love to hear your feedback on sharing

meal plans.

Blessings to you!

Mel
