Jim, it's ok, we're used to all the Texas jokes. There was an elderly

gentleman on the other board I belong to, from Seattle area, and he

was always giving me a hard time about Texas. He had been stationed

near Lubbock during WWII and thought he had been sent to hell.

And I shouldn't have been so quick with the nyah, nyah, nyah on the

weather, 'cuz it's now 49 and raining..... :)

Our part of Texas is not so bad. We have hills, trees, rivers and

creeks and lakes. Actually a nice place for most of the year. You DO

NOT want to be here in July or August, and sometimes most of

September. Hot as Hades and humid. We try to get away to Northern Cali

for at least a week or two in August just so we can be outdoors and

breathe. Did I mention the bugs in Texas???? Or the venomous snakes???

Or the cactus, the tornadoes, and the poisonous spiders???? The

tourist board wouldn't want me working for them....LOL! If I had known

about the snakes and scorpions before I moved here I wouldn't have

moved here...... :)

Australia is my hubby's dream vacation. My older Sis was there several

years ago for 3 weeks and had the best time. We have a friend in New

Zealand, in the wine business, and he's always telling us to visit.

I lived in Eastern Oregon for 3 years in my teens, and would

cheerfully move back to La Grande at a moment's notice if not for my

family here in Texas. La Grande actually has 4 distinct seasons.

Rather like a Norman Rockwell painting there.....

I'm originally from California and adore the northern part. I can't

handle the cold anymore though. I have Raynaud's and have to stay warm.

It's nice that you have the support of family and friends. I'm sure

you've been there for them just as often in the past and they're

probably very happy to aid you now in any way. It's all about the give

and take, and I have a feeling you were the " giver " in the past.

While I can no longer help my family out physically, I try to help in

other ways. I bake for them, am the family " psychologist " , and love to

give them all trinkets and things that I find on my forays for jewelry

and stuff to sell on ebay. I think the womenfolk are rather sick of

jewelry by now...if that's possible! LOL!

This disease may take our breath away but it can't have our hearts and

souls.

Will you be going to Australia this year? Are you on O2? Have you

posted any pics from your trips?

Hope you're warm today!

Big Hugs from the Lone Star State

> Babs......Oh, I don't mind...I talked to my friend in Australia on

Christmas and it was in the 80s. That's why we like going there,

usually in Feb or March. Cold here.......but so, so nice there. There

have been times when I'd be there and not wear shoes for a month (just

don't walk in the tall grass, eh ). In fact my wife got out one of

our videos last night from our last trip in 2006....blue sky,

sunshine, warm, blue ocean water, watermelon, etc.......and I can

promise...not once in 30 days did I give thought to the " paradise "

we'd left behind.

> Thanx for the kind words. And you are right, I know that virtually

everyone here has experienced these things. I think that's one of the

reasons I write about these thoughts, knowing everyone " gets it " . What

could I offer them?? Hot chocolate, coffee, sandwiches, money, how

about my first born?? I have to be careful because my bro-in-law is

Alaska Native and it would be very easy to offend him. You're right, I

am just so thankful.

>

> I am not Native, been here 23 years. Came from Wash State, near

Portland, Or. " Here " is the south, west coast, Bristol Bay, the

largest sockeye salmon fishery on the planet. Sitka is probably almost

a thousand miles from here. So, how's your sense of humor?? You

mention that it's 60 degrees...my response, being the sicko, boasting,

Bush Alaskan that I am, would be......yeah, but

it's............it's....................Texas. OHHHHHHHHHH, I know

that's going to get me in deep doo-doo with all the Texans on the

board. Oh well, it'll get my mind off the cold. Thanx again, Babs.

Jim, when I moved to Texas in 1980 it was like stepping into a

Twilight Zone movie. They had what were called " Blue Laws " and you

couldn't purchase certain items on Sundays. They would rope off the

different parts of the store that held the forbidden items....weird.

That law was written off the books years ago, but just the fact that

you couldn't buy a mop on a Sunday was freakin' weird. And in some

counties they are still " dry " and you have to bring your own liquor

to dances and such. You then buy the " set ups " and can drink

away....again, weird....our small towns JUST voted to sell liquor

within the city limits. I don't drink, so I don't care, but it's

another funny thing about Texas. Sometimes you feel like you're in

the times of Prohibition....

I hope you get the O2 issues sorted out soon. It's the most vital

part of our treatment and yet we all seem to have so many different

problems with it. Hopefully your GP will aid you in getting it all

properly set up. Are you able to do any rehab?

And Jim, thank goodness you have the pictures and memories of OZ. How

cool that you were actually there, and for such large chunks of time.

I can't wait to see the pics when you get them posted. I had to

cancel a trip to London because of the O2 problems and the flight,

etc., so I can understand the frustration of wanting to go and not

being physically able.

I've always wanted to go to Scotland also. I'm 16th generation Scots,

and knowing that I likely won't ever make that trip I live

vicariously through our fellow boardie May.... :)

There was a saying in the 70's that I loved, and still use....

Onward through the fog!

Hugs!

ABSOL-BLINKIN- LUTELY Warrior Princess...you'll sure know about it IF it happens again...only missed you by a few months...I was in Cornwall in October but gave London Town a miss on this occasion (couldn't quite get my head around organising the 7 Ring Circus in London)

When I'm in Tassie fro the next month I'll be starting to get to work on my writing of the Family Tales from Cornwall.....I've got a funny feeling that I'll find out pretty quickly all the 'holes' that I'll want to go back to fill!

Whether I get there again is quite another matter!

Cheers,
