Guest guest
Heyla, folks.... For those of you who use unusual meats, do you have a source or sources for buffalo meat? I am specifically <deep sigh> looking for a really high quality buffalo / grass-fed liver. I had an appointment with the oncologist yeasterday, and we were able to sort out the issues with my food for the hospital. I researched clear, thick liquid, and soft food diets, determined what foods I tolerated and liked, and created a list which I showed to her, and asked if this met her parameters for what I should be eating at the given points after the surgery. It did. We also sorted out that the " nothing red for 24 hours before " was for digestive tract surgery (although she noted that they prefer nothing red in case I throw up, they don't have to try sorting out whether it's juice, supplements, or blood. But she had no problem with my using sips of pomegranate, blue berry, and black cherry juices (Knudsen Just Juice line, if anyone's interested) and she also had no problem with the standard Tropicana no-pulp orange juice the day before, again because this isn't gut surgery. However, this is off the topic of buffalo meat. I can get stew meat and London Broil at the local whole foods. But the liver... well.... I hate liver. Hate it, hate it, hate it. However, the oncologist said that because of my weight, there was likely to be more blood loss with the surgery, and she would want me to take oral iron -- which, we all know, is contraindicated for us SCDers. I suggested liver pate (I have a recipe which makes liver ALMOST palatable...), and she laughed at my expression, but said that would work fine. So, of course, I want the cleanest and best quality liver I can get. Of course, we're all mindful of shipping fees, and this WILL be coming to Louisiana. So... any suggestions about vendors you may have tried and liked or disliked? — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
