Guest guest
Irene: I was so sad when I heard you had to be taken to the hospital. I remember my first trip by ambulance to the hospital with breathing difficulties. I remember how scared I was. It was on January 5, 2007, just 4 days after my brother passed away, and the very evening I had returned to West Virginia from Ohio where the funeral was held. The treatment I received at the hospital sounds very much like what they did to you. I received breathing treatments, oxygen, more breathing treatments, x-rays, and other diagnostic tests to rule out different things. But that was the start of my road to IPF. Thereafter, I was sent to my new family doctor, from there to a pulmonologist, from there to a surgeon for the open lung biopsy, back to the pulmonologist and on April 21, 2007, received the news of this disease. The hardest part for me was telling my family because we had just dealt with the loss of my brother just a few months earlier. He had brain cancer which was diagnosed in June of '06 and died on January 1, 2007. The roller coaster we ride on never seems to end. I also sympathize with you regarding your work situation. I worked until May of '06 and I never missed a day in five years, other than the birth of my son in '02 (and returned to work when he was 4 days old!) and then a hysterectomy surgery in '05. I went to work when I was sick and shouldn't have. I went to work every day that I felt bad. I went to work because I needed my paycheck and I needed my job! My boss wasn't flexible and there was no one to cover for me if I was not there. It was a one girl office. I look back now and wish I had put my health first. And, when I finally did leave that job, I told my boss it was because I had to take care of myself, first and foremost. Anyway, I know there are reasons you have to be there, but do take care of yourself. Guest guest
Tina: Its so odd how things happen and often beyond our understanding. But, something tells me that the death of your brother and the trip had weakened you just enough, and maybe the associated anxiety, that it led to the hospital. Then, without that event you might have not been diagnosed. Many of us get diagnosed when we're being checked for something entirely different, but others after long periods of unexplained issues. It's also a shame that people have to go to work when they shouldn't be, whether its because they couldn't get enough from disability or don't qualify because of the tough rules and social security. We really don't take care of the younger disabled very well. Some employers are quite tolerant but not very many. Its all about productivity and profits, not the humanity. We all seem to try to go too long and do too much. Regardless, I'm glad you're in good hands back with your mom and Kaleb and while the disease is still horrible, I sure do sense you on the upswing in dealing with whats going on in your life. > > > > > *((((Leanne)))) thank you for letting the board know that I was > in the > > > hospital. > > > > > > ((((Bruce)))) thank you for posting that we had spoken and I was > on my > > > way home. > > > > > > ((((Peggy, Sher, Gwynne & May)))) > > > > > > Thank you All for the Well Wishes! Guest guest
Thanks, Bruce, I feel like I am on the upswing. Then again, I am afraid to be on the downswing! I was misdiagnosed for a long, long, time before someone finally looked at the big picture. I had been treated for pneumonia 6 times in 2006! Every time someone would listen to my lungs, they would say... " yep, it's pneumonia " . So begain the course of steroids, antibiotics, steroids, antibiotics, nebulizer treatments, inhalers of all brands, singulair, etc. Of course, then there's the asthma - of which I am convinced I never had. I had been told I had asthma for many years. Funny, now that I am dealing with IPF, I haven't had any " asthma attacks " ! Of course, I am on oxygen full time - that might explain it. The health systems definitely needs some reform! So many things that happened to me seem to have happened for a reason. My illness gave me the fortitude it took to walk away from my career. But, my illness also gave me time to spend with my kids. Time that I never had before, because it was always work...work....work! I worked so that I could give my kids everything, but what I have since realized is they just wanted me. I am glad I am able to give them my time now, even if it is " limited " . I am looking forward to meeting you in San . I am making my flight reservations next week. My daughter, , is coming with me and plans to participate in some of the " caregiver " events. They asked me a bunch of questions and they determined Fire Dept?and Ambulance need to get there right away! I told them No you cannot send one, I'm at work, what am I supposed to tell my supervisor, I just got back from my 2 days off. Can it wait until my shift is over....Finally, I told her please send them over because I was about to faint on her and I stayed on the phone until Fire Dept got there...they took over, a few minutes later Paramedics arrived. > > Irene > Raynaud's Disease 09/07 > PF 03/07 Canada > > > > > > > > > ________________________________________________________________________ > Meet the new AOL.ca.
