Re: School Sponsored Tours

First, lets be clear on what a huge percentage of the school

sponsored tours are. Nothing but a way for a teacher (often young

one) to get herself a free trip and vacation, unfortunately. Based on

signups, she gets free first and then cash. I think in some ways the

very concept brings the teacher's level of responsibility into

question. Would you want to be responsible for the children of many

others simply for a vacation? I don't want to travel anywhere enough

to go through that worry. Now, there are teachers who are exceptions.

Second, I remember even my college choir tour to Europe. It was

poorly planned and although we were older we were basically

unchaperoned. Tattoos weren't in yet, but whatever else you imagine,

you're understating what went on during our tour.

I'm so glad made it back with nothing serious happening, but

it is a warning to all parents. Don't let the fact its a teacher

influence you. If your child isn't to be chaperoned by a very well

trusted friend and as part of a very small group, then just say " no " .

Even if they tried, who could watch after over four kids in a foreign

place?

Bruce, Tell your ex wife to do it through EF Tours and advertise that only kids with parents can go. All the school tours let you sign up adults. I am not sure why everyone thinks they don't. Adults cost more , but I was amazed at how many people signed up once they knew it was not a "party" tour. My principal and her husband went, another teacher with her husband,2 secretaries, a family of four and a mom with two kids. You get one free place for every six participants and it doesn't matter if they are adults or children. It was one of the best perks for being a teacher and the only way I could have ever gotten to see another country. Sarcoid/PF
