Guest guest
Hi Friends, Seems how the topic has turned to sleep I thought I would share what I have learned over the past 10 years. There have been periods of time that I would go into sleep deprivation. I could barely function. I finally found a good primary doctor that recognized my problems and has worked with me on it. I currently take a low dose antidepressant at night to help me sleep. I took a sleeping pill for about 3 years, and I woke up refreshed, but it wasn't REM sleep. Dr. Milhorat told me that Benedryl works great. I used it for about 5 months. 75 mg. works well. My primary didn't like the Benedryl though. I guess studies have been done on pilots that use it to sleep, and their cognitive was effected after a while. If you don't have anything to help you sleep, you can get the Benedryl over the counter. Talk with your primary doctor about the issue, and get something to help. As for sleeping all of the time, I have been there too. I couldn't sleep enough. Most people with ACM do suffer from sleep disorders. Know that it is temporary, in most cases, and sleep well. Kathleen ACM I CRS- email me if you don't know what that one is. Guest guest
hi stephanie, have you been diagnosed with restless leg syndrome or periodic leg movement disorder. i have both and the legs moving during sleep is typical of the periodic leg movement disorder. i take permax, klonopin, and neurontin for it. let me know. take care. tina in nc - Re: sleep deprivation Well funny this post should come along! My neurologist is saying that I either have Idiopathic CNS hypersomnia or Narcolepsy! I have had excessive daytime sleepiness for years and the sleep study confirmed it! I was aroused from sleep 71 times, thats roughly 12 an hour and then with the leg movements at 42 (!6 leading to arousal and 26 not) he seems to think that its either Narcolepsy or the other! I am awaiting the test results for a HLA DQW6 which is the test now being used to rule " in " narcolepsy. If this test comes back high then my chances of having narcolepsy are greater. Unfortuantely there is no definitive test to say one way or the other. If one of my symptoms were cataplexy then it could be confirmed that I have narcolepsy! So add anothe diagnosis to the lengthy list! There is no cure for narcolepsy, or Idiopathic CNS hypersomnia, its basically just to take speed! and that has some contraversy as I can become tolerate and when you up the dose you risk cardiovascular problems! My neuro does belive however thatbalance and coordination, headaches etc are cause by the chiari and not the other thing! So here we go again! in NC --- Kathleen Grigg wrote: > Hi Friends, > > Seems how the topic has turned to sleep I thought I > would share what I > have learned over the past 10 years. > > There have been periods of time that I would go into > sleep deprivation. > I could barely function. Guest guest
I have another question for you all. I see that alot of you have had Sleep Studies done. Which tells you how many times a night you wake up because of something, like below. And those numbers are quite numerous. So I was wondering, are you guys aware that you woke up that many times? Or are you only aware of waking up a few times? Does that make sense?
