Guest guest
I am new to the list and a big advocate of feeding in public. I am just waiting for the day for someone to tell me to stop nursing my one year old in public. Just waiting. I feel like I have all this pent up aggression on the subject just waiting to come out! I WISH someone would say something to me! LOL! When I had my first baby, I never gave public nursing a second thought... but he stopped nursing around 3 months, too. When I had my second baby, at first, it never crossed my mind that I would upset someone if I nursed her in public -- until my own MIL asked me some rather pointed questions! I answered them as gently as I could, but I wasn't prepared for someone in my own family being upset at my nursing my 13 month old! After that, I got myself armed with solid info, and waited... not one person ever challenged me to breastfeed anywhere but where I was. Same with my third. I carried both my younger two in a sling and nursed frequently while they were inside... people could see their tiny feet sticking out and would ask if there was a baby in there, and I would just say, " Yes, s/he's eating now, " and they wouldn't even bat an eye. My brother, on the other hand, thinks that while breastfeeding is best, it should never, ever be done in public -- including in front of family. I find that hypocritical. How could something so wonderful for my baby be shameful, too?
