Weren't you going to contact Clarion to ask if the new digital processor was compatable with the existing ABI Implants. I wrote to them and asked, they sent me a very nice information pack and video (with captions) all about the choclear implant. They did not mention the ABI, and they never answered my question. Just wondered if you did any better. Alan
Guest guest
Hi, It has been a long time since I have given you some news about Marie-. She returned to school last January and has completed with success her three remaining high school courses. She was even able to maintain her 80% average and got two entrance schoolaships for her first year at Ottawa university. As a family, we have taken the first part of a sign language course in preparation for her deafness. She still takes anti-depressants and her doctor has advised her to continue to do so until next year. She has had another MRI in March and also one in May and another in June. We meet with the neurosurgeon on the 26th of July and he informed us that her other tumour was growing fast and that she should get another operation soon. Marie- has decided to have the surgery this fall and that she would postphone her university education for one semester. She was suppose to travel to Europe after graduating from high school before we found out about her nf2 condition. With the up comming surgery, she decided that she wanted to make the trip this summer so she got on the plane with her cousin to visit Europe for 40 days. She had a great time and I am happy that she could do it even thought she was away from home. With the last MRI, the radialogist spotted seven small tumours on her spine so the roller coaster ride is not over yet. Her next surgery is planned for the first of November. We are going to Los Angeles and she should have an ABI put in by Dr. Brackmann. Her morale is good at present because of this trip to Europe and her neurologist thought is would be a good thing as it will take her mind off her health. He also mentionned that it would give nice souvenirs to think of when she would be feeling down. She is presently taking a lip reading course at the Ottawa hospital so that she can better cope after the surgery. The blood work that was sent to the States did not acertain that her condition is a mutation or genetic. The family is still in the process of having different tests done. Thank you for your support. Guest guest
Carole, It sounds like Marie- is as perplexing as my daughter, Anne. She,too, doesn't seem to be a true mutation or have it in the blood. All I know is that she has tumors and we want them to go away. I hope you have good luck out here at the House Institute. I am in LA and would like to hear from you. If you are interested, please write me directly and perhaps we can exchange phone or snail mail addresses. vicki
