Guest guest
My daughter is taking Focalin. She has been taking it for about 5 years now. I notice a big change in her ability to focus. When she doesn't receive it for a couple of days (if she is sick or its the weekend) I see a difference -lack of quick responsiveness and poor attention. For those who believe in medicating the little ones, anyone have any experience using Focalin? Our neuro is recommending for my son's ADHD.Thanks. Psssst...Have you heard the news? Guest guest
It was like a milder form of Ritalin...did not depress my son's appetite as much, improved his focus and attention and calmed his hyperactivity. The down side as with most meds we tried, his personality was more subdued - no affect, until the meds wore off. We eventually decided to discontinue the meds and deal with the behaviors in other ways. Medicating your child is an individual decision. For some it is the answer, for some it is not. Guest guest
Hello, Our son, who is six and considered high-functioning autistic, has been on Focalin for one year and we have seen a huge improvement with his attending and focus in school. He started with a 5 XR (slow release) in the morning at 6:00, and now he is taking a 10 XR. We found that it was out of his system by 1:00, so he now takes a 5 XR at 12:00 which seems to help his after school therapy of OT and ABA. The only downside has been that it curbs his appetite in the morning, so he eats a light breakfast and sometimes half his regular lunch. He tends to eat large dinners, so he maintains a normal weight for his height. I have heard a side effect can be a restless sleep, but we have not found that in his case. Another issue to be aware of is to know your child's pills. Both Target and CVS filled our Focalin prescription with Adderall. They printed our son's name on the bottle and Focalin as the medication, but inside were pills of a different color and stamped " Adderall. " Since we had been giving him the prescription, we knew the color was different and luckily he never got the wrong medication. I hope this helps. > > For those who believe in medicating the little ones, anyone have any > experience using Focalin?
