Guest guest
My daughter does not have autism but has Cerebral Palsy. She has been in private schools for the past 4 years none of which were a great experiance. So after 4 years of not finding the right private school, I decided to try public again. I used the public school option on the Mckay to send her to a different public school so that she would be in a school that a close friend has her daughters at and so that she could be sent to that friends house for aftercare and tutoring which she is in great need of. After hearing back and forth wether she was going to be accepted becuase she does not have a current IEP (becuase she has been in private school for 4 years)they finally gave me a final answer last week that yes she is accepted into the new public school. I have been trying to get an answer out of anyone as to what type of class she would be placed in. Finally today I got a hold of the ESE specialist that works at the school and she said, once again, because she does not have a current IEP they can only put her in a gen ed class until they go through the lengthy process of doing an IEP. She did not say how long just that it took a while. I explained that my daughter cannot read or do any math, can barely write, and has to be reminded constantly to stay on task so how will she fit into a 4th grade class. And she said that she had no other options, because they only have an autism cluster, and that I was the one who chose the school. I know that my daughter will not fit in a gen ed class, at least not for the full day. I chose the school because I had heard good things about their ESE and especially because my friend is a great support system that is going to be very beneficial to my daughter. Now I dont know what to do. School starts monday and they are planning on sticking her in a gen ed class with 22 other kids. I am so frustrated, What do I do? PS sorry so long
