Guest guest
I've read about so many having trouble with 02, etc., I just had to jump in and tell you about mine. Luckily I haven't had too much to complain about, but here's the deal. When I first was put on 02 in February, 2007, my son, Kaleb, loved the idea of pulling the cart for me. He just thought he was Superman with that responsibility, and it was nice, except for the occasional tug when he would pull faster than I could keep up, and not to mention his directional skills were lacking. But, my husband refused to have anything to do with the oxygen. He actually even made some very unkind remarks about being on oxygen, which didn't help my apprehension about the whole thing. And, then there was my mother. When she learned of my fait, she told me not to use the oxygen too much because I would become dependent! Duh! I really couldn't get it through their heads that it was medically necessary! I urged my insurance company to supply me with a portable oxygen concentrator because my travels to the transplant center were very long and that it would be beneficial to me. But, that didn't work. They refused to pay for one. So, I am still using the bottles that will last 1-2 hours on intermittent and the one in the cart will last 3-4 hours on intermittent. As for travels, I've switched suppliers twice. Once was because of the lack of attention to my travel plans and the required concentrator needed when I was out of town. It was supposed to be set-up and the day before I was to leave, I called to confirm everything, only to find out that it had not been set up. The last minute rush was on when I told them I would find a supplier who could take care of me in a better fashion. And, I switched as soon as I returned from that trip. Thereafter, the new supplier treated me well and I didn't have any complaints....until it came time for me to move to Ohio. They were supposed to set that all up for me. Even though they did not have any offices in or around Sandusky or Cleveland, they said it would not be a problem, because they were owned by Lincare and would find one for me. Well, I gave them plenty of notice and they screwed up too! So, I came to Ohio, found an oxygen supplier that day and had delivery set up that afternoon. Unfortunately, it is a small local company and they can't help me with travels either. So, I am on the search for a new company. Oh, and that's not all. My living arrangements with my mother were very sketchy in the beginning. We didn't know where Kaleb and I would be sleeping, even though my mother and step-father have two spare rooms. So, it turns out Kaleb and I had to get the master bedroom because it is the farthest from their room, because my step-father can't stand the sound of the oxygen concentrator. LOL! Oh well, that suited me just fine. But, I had just accomplished the year long battle it took for Kaleb to sleep in his own room - and here we are sharing a room. He loves it, of course. But, I had to give up a queen size bed for a twin because we had to be able to fit two beds in one room! Now, if you're asking why we couldn't use the other spare bedroom, well, it is because that room was my brother's room and he passed away one year ago this month and it is still a shrine in his honor. Nothing is allowed to be touched or moved in that room and the door is kept locked and closed. I understand the grieving part, but I wonder how long it will be like this? And, then I wonder, upon my passing, if my room also becomes a shrine, my mother and step-father will have given up half of their house! I think they will sell the house and move after all this! Anyway, I just wanted to share my story. God Bless, Tina IPF 04/07 PH 11/07 Ohio
