Guest guest
In reply to Priebee: The term you want is the " vagal nerve response " . The vagus nerve runs right alongside the anus. Bearing down as you would while having a bowel movement can re-set a racing heart. Ever hear of anyone who died while on the toliet (ala Elvis)? About the last thing a person having signs & symptoms of a heart attack should do is attempt to have a bowel movement! The vagus nerve can be compressed enough so as to interupt the rhythm of the heart (arrhymia) which can lead to cardiac arrest. A basically healthy individual (with no signs & symptoms of a heart attack) has no need to even think about the vagal nerve response!
