Hi everyone,

I've been reading this group discussion for the past month but haven't

written in yet. I had terrible vulvar pain, burning and itching from

1992 to 2001. I lived in England at the time and went to probably 50

different doctors. I went on the anti candida diet and took caprylic

acid every day as well as dozens of other vitamins and numerous

diflucan treatments. However, it didn't help and my yeast cultures were

always negative. Noone could give me a diagnosis and they finally told

me it was in my head and sent me to a shrink. My fiance broke off our

engagement (back in 1997) because of it. Devastated, I moved back to

America in 1999. After another year of trying different doctors, I

found one who diagnosed me with Vestibulitis. I tried the amytripoline

with no success as well as a course of antibiotics with no success, so

this doctor suggested a vestibulectomy, which I had in August of 2001.

She told me that it would take me three months to recover. After six

months I was still in terrible pain and I was at the point of

desperation. But then gradually each month, the pain became less and

less and by January of 2003 it had disappeared all together. Life was

bliss until August of 2005 when the burning returned. I attribute the

return of the burning to my accidental purchase of regular " scented "

laundry detergent. I had always bought the free and clear variety

before that. Even though I quickly purchased the free and clear and

re-washed all of my underwear with it, the burning didn't go away, so I

did some more research on line and decided to go off the pill and go on

a low oxalate diet and rinse with water after urinating. Within a week

of making these modifications my condition had improved significantly.

Within two months I was back to normal during the middle of my cycle

and now I just experience a bit of soreness a week before and a week

after my period.

The happy news is that in 1999 I met a wonderful man named who

loved me enough to deal with my problems. For two and a half years we

didn't have sex and the night before my vestibulectomy, he told me that

even if it was a failure he would love me anyway. We are getting

married on April 29th. So for all of you out there who are going

through such a hard time, have faith and perseverence with this

terribly difficult disease, there is light at the end of the tunnel. If

I wasn't so busy with wedding planning right now, then I would get

myself to one of these specialists here in Manhattan and get some of

the estrogen/testosterone cream but I will probably tackle that after

the wedding is over.

Love to all of you,

P.S. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and have been researching

autism, as some of my patients are autistic, and have found that heavy

metals (mercury in particular) attribute to the breakdown of these

children's immune systems. With chelation therapy to rid their bodies

of the metals, much improvement is seen. I am wondering if this is also

a contributing factor to many of our faulty immune systems. I have

found out through my research that all of us are exposed to these

metals in our environment both in the air we breath and the food we eat

(particularly fish). These metals are not just introduced through the

MMR vaccine, so we are all at risk. Another treatment which has been

helpful for these children is taking omega3 fatty acids (must be

molecularly distilled to be free of mercury). I decided to also take

this supplement as it is so beneficial to our bodies for many different

reasons (maintains healthy cholesterol levels, improves brain

functioning, etc., etc.) I began the omega 3 fatty acids (1000mg daily)

at the same time that I made the other modifications to my diet and so

I wonder if they have also helped my condition to improve because two

crazy things have happened since I started taking them. 1) I suddenly

started growing masses more hair (just on my head...no where else!) I

look like Dennis the menace now with all of these short tufts of hair

sprouting out between my longer locks. In addition (this is a weird

one) I started getting ear wax again. back in 1992, I had an acne

problem which I went on Acutane for. After my Acutane treatment, I

never had any ear wax again (until now) and the time of my treatment

also coincided with the onset of my vestibulitis, so I can't help but

think that it was a contributing factor to my condition. Did anyone

else on this list ever take Acutane? Anyway, I think that I was

obviously lacking some important oils in my body and so perhaps the

omega 3 fatty acids (which are from fish oil) have helped to restore

this balance and lubricate my feminine parts again!

Congratulations! I am a gard student in Spec Ed so I find what you have to say quite interesting. What is chelation therapy ? Do you recommend one Omega 3 over another? There has always been a link bewteen autism and vaccines Just never proven, it will be interesting to see what your research finds. Sue
