Guest guest
Hi Amy and ' I've been reading with interest the swollen tongue discussion. My doctors say I have a geographical tongue. It has some red and white areas and I often get little sores if I eat certain foods like cheese or tomatoes. They say its not thrush but not one of them, even the dentist, can tell me what it is or how to treat it. A dental hygenist once told me to try Lysine? but I haven't so far. I've been on various nsaids, Prosac, Trazodone.for approximately 7 years. Add Gold injections past 2 years along with Premarin, Claritin, Folic acid, multivite, and a supplement called Silica for hair and nails. Methotrxate(low dose), pepcid and Celebrex have been added the past two weeks. Does anyone have any ideas? It is bothersome and embarrassing. When I started MTX 8 months ago, it was the first thing to clear up!!! I have concluded that the spots were the manifestation of psoriasis on the tounge. They hadn't ever bothered me in all the years they were there, but within a month of MTX they were gone. If only I could be so lucky with the nail/scalp battle I currently wage!! Guest guest
Hi Goldin, There is no doubt in my mind that the sores on your tongue are as a result of either gold or MTX. I had a mouthful of sores from the gold. They come and go but now that I am off the gold no more sores. It is difficult in your case to pinpoint the source of your tongue trouble given that you take so many meds. Could you possibly go off the MTX for a while just to see if the tongue porblem clears.Sounds so sore and I know that feeling . Kit
Guest guest
Goldin, I initially went to the doctor for the swollen tongue and after many misdiagnoses, still have yet to find the answer. I do know that Nystatin was prescribed as an oral rinse. It helps numb the pain. It doesn't explain the sores and swollen tongue as I hadn't been on any medication prior to the doctor's visit. My problem comes and goes. I can't seem to find a food that could be causing the problem. My thyroid is good, so it can't be Lupis, my doctors said. I keep thinking someone will come up with the answer soon. God bless you, Amy
Guest guest
You know, I too sugested that my tongue problem was psoriasis related. I noticed that the white areas, which would bleed if irritated felt like the skin was " flaking off " . I was told this couldn't be the case, but I'm beginning to think that I was right all along. Guest guest
Hi Kit, This is Amy, the one who started all this tongue talk. I hadn't taken any medication when I first had this problem. I noticed it cleared up pretty well when I started taking MTX. Any thoughts? Amy
Guest guest
To Beterlate Wow! I just started the Mtx last week. It will be great if it takes care of the tongue. Thanks To Kit I had the problem before the gold so I'm starting to think maybe it's the Prozac. Has anyone else heard of psoriasis of the tongue? To Pat.... This is amazing. I had never heard of SS until spoke of it. I'm happy for you that this problem will be treated appropriately now. Goldin
Guest guest
This is interesting that two people are saying their tongue problems were cleared after taking MTX. I've just started on MTX so I'll keep you posted if mine clears. Thanks...Goldin
