Guest guest
, You didn't mention how old tte is, or how much she weighs (you probably posted it previously, but I have a hard time keeping track of everyone, esp. since this list has grown so much!). We've been told that should get 1200 calories per day. At night, he now gets 20 ounces of pediasure through his tube, which is 600 calories, about half his requirement. We hope that he'll eat the other 600 calories; if he eats poorly, we give him extra bolus feeds during the day. We too have noticed that he eats better when we give him less pediasure at night, but not enough to make up the difference. Have you ever tried keeping a food diary / calorie count, esp. on the days after her " nights off " ? We sometimes give nights off from the pump (like if we're travelling or have other things going on), and he'll eat pretty well the next day, but nowhere near 1200 calories, even adding butter, oil, etc. to everything. As for the pump rate, we're very fortunate that has never had a problem with reflux, and can tolerate a very high pump rate: 250 cc/hr. That sounds awfully high, but it's really only one 8 ounce can dripped slowly in per hour. The advantage of this high rate is that he gets all of his pediasure before 11PM (he goes to bed around 8PM), and has the whole rest of the night to build up an appetite for breakfast. Also, we don't have to get up in the middle of the night to shut off his pump, or worry about him getting tangled up in his tubing at night, or disconnect it and lie in a big puddle of pediasure all night. DO NOT try this with tte without checking first with your GI doctor, and if you do, I suggest slowly increasing the rate over a period of weeks, to see what she can tolerate. - Joe, father to , age 5, 24 lbs, 36 in, Gtube, periactin > Im just curious - any one who has a child with G-tube that eats during > the > day and just has feeds at night.
