Guest guest
If you go to the FaceBook home page at http://www.facebook.com/ and enter prostate cancer in the search engine you’ll find the (few) sites; enter prostate cancer awareness and you’ll find more; enter support prostate cancer awareness and you’ll find the one with the most members. I guess there may be other groups with variations on the prostate cancer theme Terry Herbert Moderator: Prostate Cancer Support List From: ProstateCancerSupport [mailto:ProstateCancerSupport ] On Behalf Of sammy_bates Sent: Monday, 25 January 2010 9:42 AM To: ProstateCancerSupport Subject: Re: Raising Prostate Cancer Awareness on Facebook Maybe you could write down a brief guide to getting to the places on facebook where prostate cancer is discussed ? Guest guest
Rich, I can’t say that I have been to all the FaceBook sites, but the ones I have visited tend to be what FaceBook is – social sites where some information [usually low in technical aspects] is exchanged. The “New” " New " Prostate Cancer InfoLink Social Network at http://prostatecancerinfolink.ning.com/ tries to combine some limited social aspects with more technical focused discussions, but it does not seem to be very active and I must confess that I find it difficult to navigate. A ‘sister’ site is THE " NEW " PROSTATE CANCER INFOLINK at http://prostatecancerinfolink.net which posts news items with what I think is excellent commentary. As my oncologist told me donkey’s years ago – you learn something new about PCa every day, and that is a good site to learn, I think. There are some lists which are more technical although many of them often develop a focus on a specific treatment. For example, this List was regarded by many about 18 months ago as a PBT (Proton Beam Therapy) list because there were many vocal supporters for that therapy. It is not so PBT focused now because a specific PBT list was formed. There are other focused Lists for EBRT, Cry, HIFU, ADT etc where most of the discussions are pretty general. Steve J and Alan Myers contribute to another general list, I know – sorry boys I don’t have the URL handy – and there are others if you search around. I like the PPML List, despite the bias of some of the old timers there. The addresses and descriptions of some of the Lists and Forums are on my site at http://www.yananow.net/mailinglist.htm and I suggest you have a look around at those until you find any that are useful for you. All the best Terry Herbert I have no medical qualifications but I was diagnosed in ‘96: and have learned a bit since then. My sites are at www.yananow.net and www.prostatecancerwatchfulwaiting.co.za Dr “Snuffy” Myers : " As a physician, I am painfully aware that most of the decisions we make with regard to prostate cancer are made with inadequate data " From: ProstateCancerSupport [mailto:ProstateCancerSupport ] On Behalf Of Rich Sent: Tuesday, 26 January 2010 9:16 AM To: ProstateCancerSupport Subject: Re: Raising Prostate Cancer Awareness on Facebook Terry, Do you have a recommendation of which group is the more effective in sharing real data/info versus the social networking stuff you normally see? What I saw in the larger group was more light hearted chatter and some misinformation regarding home remedies/fads.
