Guest guest
Don, Dr Myers has (generally speaking) a good reputation amongst the men on the Internet. Here is a taste of what he thinks about managing prostate cancer - http://www.yananow.net/MyersManagement.htm and there is a link to his site. He consults (for cash only, doesn’t take insurance) men with advanced cancer. There is a good deal of doubt about the value of diet in the management of the disease and you might like to have a look at this discussion which will give you some idea of the variety of views http://prostatecancerinfolink.ning.com/forum/topics/the-nutritional-side-of All the best Terry Herbert I have no medical qualifications but I was diagnosed in ‘96: and have learned a bit since then. Guest guest
First turn off your caps lock key. All capital letters means you are yelling at us. I don’t think that there is a non-commercial page that explains the foods that you should be eating for your condition. If there was I would certainly be suspect. There has been a lot of dietary recommendations in this group with some pretty profound claims from people who are not always completely forth coming in their information. I consider those messages suspect too. I know the cancer center that I will be going to for my post surgical radiation treatments has a nutritionist on staff that we are encouraged to meet with. In my opinion this is a better option since not everyone’s treatment is the same and their needs may be different. Interaction with a nutritionist who can look at your particular situation is a much better safer option than the global generalizations that fly around on the internet. Maybe you should discuss this with your doctors. At stage 4 I wouldn’t want to be wasting a lot of time trying to filter out the cyber junk. Guest guest
Hello Don,Last summer, my husband had a 9.6 PSA and biopsy showed 60%cancer in one of 12 samples and 5% cancer in another. His doctor advised him to have a prostatectomy or second best - radiation. He never mentioned anything else except cryosurgery, which he did not advise, didn't mention proton beam, or any other treatment plan. After reading a week straight everything we could get our hands on, we went to one of the major urologists in the state of Florida because we heard he encourages active surveillance and he was involved in a successful trial of an herb called BIRM (never went to the next stage of trials) in the University of Florida. He also said he did not advise anything but RPT for Andy. After enough self education, and being very frightened of the after effects of surgery et al., Andy decided (against both doctor's advise) to follow a path for 3 months of active surveillance-emphasis on active. We felt that he had that time - if his PSA did not change - he would probably do proton beam. He went on a completely vegan diet. He took Zyflamend, lycomato, and a few other herbs that we researched and then returned for a new PSA in December. It was a 2! If he had a 2 to begin with, both drs. said they would not have even given him a biopsy. We are a happy ending and although I understand other's suspicions when they write that basically just go back to your doctor and don't listen to anything you read about - there WAS a lot of ridiculous stuff on the internet that we found - one has to have a sense that there is a difference between someone who has studied the effects of a certain herb say in a University setting, for example, and someone who said that eating the tail of a tiger cured their grandfather and send them cash only for said cure. Our experience shows that doctors either don't know or won't tell you that there are other less drastic ways to truly heal oneself. Our friend cured herself of stage 4 aggresive breast cancer with a complementary diet that she still is on today - 10 years later. We do have two friends who are still suffering years later from the after effects of surgery/radiation. My husband's after effects were that he is certainly out of danger--if I don't say cured, and he lost 35 pounds without even trying and without going hungry. I wish you much success in trying to find a way to help yourself feel better and heal better. I am not implying this works for everybody. I am saying you unfortunately won't hear about it from nearly anybody you consult with. Best wishes, Sherri HELLO, EVERYONE. I HAVE STAGE 4 PROSTATE CANCER.
