Re: Anxiety? Allergic Reaction?

How long have you been on Avelox? If you just started then might be

more than a coincidence. Dizziness is reported in 2% and nervousness

and anxiety in fewer than 2% of patients. When did you take it? When

are you due more?

Seems to me you have more than enough today to be anxious about. A

couple of tricks I'd suggest to try to counter an anxiety attack if

that is it. Do some deep breathing, preferably sitting. Make sure to

have some water. Have you somehow not had enough today due to

everything else? And, if you're pacing at least for a few minutes you

might need to turn the oxygen up just one level to see if that helps.

Pacing increases the anxiety, although impossible not to do

sometimes, plus has to cut down on your oxygen levels.

Call somebody - the ER - your doc - somebody.

Don't wait.

If you ever learned to breathe for childbirth, do that. But call

somebody.

Does sound like a call for a trip to ER, always the correct choice

when in any doubt, as much as we all hate it. Meanwhile on the way

try the other things to calm down. Worst case you get there and

realize you're ok by then. I'm saying ER on the assumption that, like

here, any call to the doctor's office tells you to call 911 or go

straight to the nearest emergency room.

Hi Sandie,

How are you feeling today? Did you get to ER? Have things calmed down?

Sandie

Somehow you have to regroup and get angry and use that anger to your

benefit and insist on someone helping you. How is your primary

physician? Is he someone you can open up to with all the frustration?

If not, change.

You are also partially right on ER. As you could have been having a

severe allergic reaction, that is something they can handle. But for

the most part if you're not in heart trouble and don't have blood

gushing you are out of their realm of expertise and caring.

Mayo Clinic is good but not the end-all. They can fail to communicate

like any others. They can do incomplete work like any others.

Now, you need to find, in addition to a good primary, someone or

somewhere else to go, but this time fully armed and prepared to

insist on answers. DO NOT ACCEPT LESS. A good primary can help you

decide where and what to do. It may be back to Mayo. It may be to

University of Minnesota (just assuming by Mayo you're in the area but

may be wrong). It may be a local practice with a good pulmonologist

and a local cardiologist.

What does a six minute walk say? I know expense is an issue with all

of us but we all should have a thermometer, blood pressure machine

and oximeter and check at different times.

The stress test could find many different things. You may not have

high blood pressure and still have pulmonary hypertension. As far as

weather you do have high blood pressure, why are you assuming you

don't? No assumptions. Find out. Make them find out.

I 100%, no make that 200%, believe there is something wrong. I've

been there. It may be lungs or heart or anxiety or out of shape or

all the above or none of the above. My bet is its a combination of

some sort. What about the migraines? What is causing them. Could you

have a sleep disorder? Ever been tested? It is still the number one

cause. Do you have confidence in your neurologist assuming you are

seeing one for your migraines? If you're not seeing one, get to one.

You have every right to be angry. Now channel that anger into going

to do something and do it now. Make a list of everything bothering

you and everything you want to know. If you have to do like I did and

have 19 appointments in one month, then do it. But insist on answers.

If you have more questions and they start to move, speak fast and

don't let them. Take hand cuffs if you have to...lol.

They should be taking charge but the reality is only you can. Start

somewhere....anywhere....if that doesn't work, start somewhere else.

Since you're sort of starting over, I might recommend a top quality

primary, maybe in a large practice with doctors of all specialties.

Or heading back to a teaching hospital but not centering in on just

one area. Call their intake lines with your list in front of you

outlining your desparate need for help. Crying on the phone will help

(I'm serious...don't try to pretend to be strong, let the person on

the phone know how in need of help you are....don't have to cry, but

let her feel your need and she might just be the one to get things

going).

So, pick the day.....a day very soon....that you're going to declare

war and not let up until you're satisfied.

Then do it tomorrow. You pick the day and where to start.

Now a pet peeve of mine....doctor's crossing lines into other

specialties. A RA doc should refer you to a neurologist for

migraines. He might give one months prescriptions to hold you over.

Really see a neurologist.

Well, doctors do stop listening sometimes. One last hope with your

primary. Type everything you're experiencing and feeling up. Mine was

six pages when I did. Hand it to her when she walks in. Otherwise, if

not communicating, change. I so loved the counselor my friend saw for

the first time this week. But if not already sold, this would have

sold me. He said:

" I'd like to see you again if you'd like to see me. But now if either

now or anytime in the future you ever feel we're not communicating

well enough don't hesitate to say and I'll help you switch to

another. " She laughed and said of course she wanted to see him again.

But in changing you're not necessarily saying your primary is a bad

doctor, just its not working. Like a sports team with a great coach

but the players have heard it all and tune him out.

You know something is wrong. I believe you. Just find one person in

the medical field who will truly deep down believe you and feel your

pain enough to help you fight.

I don't mean ER. I mean doctors practicing at a teaching hospital.

yeah the local hospital is part of the major teaching hospital,

Regions - Healthpartners. Thats why I am having a hard time going to

regions because it seems no one is listening.

Sandie... I mostly agree with Bruce here.

First of all, in my opinion, stop all 'frustration-activity' for 24 hours! Use that time to calm and regroup yourself, and make a list of all your complaints. Then prioritize the list. THEN. Think about your current PCP Dr. Can or has s/he addressed these complaints? Yes? Then move on to another Dr. with specific list in-hand...

Your problems could be, depression/anxiety driven. If so there are meds to help you. In other words, what you explain to us that you feel ,can be caused by depression/anxiety. Could this possible be the reason nothing else is found? I'm grasping at straws here.

If you go back and 'start over' it seems it will be discovered if it is something more serious. You already have a number of tests done. Get copies and take them in-hand to any Dr. you see for them to review.

Any suggestions from us Sandie, are just that: suggestions. YOU have to take charge and get your frustration and negative attitude under control. There is help for you. Rest awhile and start again to find it.

Being our own advocate is so familiar to many of us. I battle insurance; co-pays paid, none-pays from insurance, bills not submitted to ins. and then 'threats' to send to collection! I get so damn tired of all this unnecessary paper-shuffling and problem-solving and changing Drs. and starting all over again I could jump off the balcony!! But....I rest awhile and start again. There is no choice if I need what I'm not getting.

Oh....do be careful of other peoples meds!!! What they give you may be ok for you, BUT, it may not mix with what you are already taking....

Does your Dr. know you had a probable allergic reaction to the med s/he prescribed? Had you taken any other med with it????

Hang in there girl. Keep on keepin' on.

Re: Anxiety? Allergic Reaction?

SandieSomehow you have to regroup and get angry and use that anger to your benefit and insist on someone helping you. How is your primary physician? Is he someone you can open up to with all the frustration? If not, change. You are also partially right on ER. As you could have been having a severe allergic reaction, that is something they can handle. But for the most part if you're not in heart trouble and don't have blood gushing you are out of their realm of expertise and caring. Mayo Clinic is good but not the end-all. They can fail to communicate like any others. They can do incomplete work like any others. Now, you need to find, in addition to a good primary, someone or somewhere else to go, but this time fully armed and prepared to insist on answers. DO NOT ACCEPT LESS. A good primary can help you decide where and what to do. It may be back to Mayo. It may be to University of Minnesota (just assuming by Mayo you're in the area but may be wrong). It may be a local practice with a good pulmonologist and a local cardiologist. What does a six minute walk say? I know expense is an issue with all of us but we all should have a thermometer, blood pressure machine and oximeter and check at different times. The stress test could find many different things. You may not have high blood pressure and still have pulmonary hypertension. As far as weather you do have high blood pressure, why are you assuming you don't? No assumptions. Find out. Make them find out.I 100%, no make that 200%, believe there is something wrong. I've been there. It may be lungs or heart or anxiety or out of shape or all the above or none of the above. My bet is its a combination of some sort. What about the migraines? What is causing them. Could you have a sleep disorder? Ever been tested? It is still the number one cause. Do you have confidence in your neurologist assuming you are seeing one for your migraines? If you're not seeing one, get to one.You have every right to be angry. Now channel that anger into going to do something and do it now. Make a list of everything bothering you and everything you want to know. If you have to do like I did and have 19 appointments in one month, then do it. But insist on answers. If you have more questions and they start to move, speak fast and don't let them. Take hand cuffs if you have to...lol. They should be taking charge but the reality is only you can. Start somewhere....anywhere....if that doesn't work, start somewhere else. Since you're sort of starting over, I might recommend a top quality primary, maybe in a large practice with doctors of all specialties. Or heading back to a teaching hospital but not centering in on just one area. Call their intake lines with your list in front of you outlining your desparate need for help. Crying on the phone will help (I'm serious...don't try to pretend to be strong, let the person on the phone know how in need of help you are....don't have to cry, but let her feel your need and she might just be the one to get things going). So, pick the day.....a day very soon....that you're going to declare war and not let up until you're satisfied.> > > > > > >> > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking I > am> > > > > > having> > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Bruce your going to fall over when I tell you this. I did the note

thing I wrote everything down that I could think of which was the

most severe things and put them down, it was one page. I made my

appt a few weeks ago and went to see her handed her the paper and

said this is where i am at right now. She looked at me and looked at

that and said I cant fix all them today. Thats when she set up the

GI consult, ordered the ultrasound and said the lung doc will take

care of those things.

So what do you do then?

Re: Anxiety? Allergic Reaction?

The weird thing is I dont feel anxious today at all. I dont feel I need to take the pills, I dont feel anything. I feel sore, and of course my sinuses are killing me because I cant take that antibiotic. I have no experience with anxiety or panic attacks as I have always been well controlled and put together and just always handled a great deal of stress. I am not saying that no one else is that way or thats why they get anxiety/panic attacks. I guess what I mean its just frustrating of why now, why all the sudden would that happen. And why today do I still feel like I cant breath that something is blocking my airway!Sandie > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > Hi all I am not sure what is going on but I am thinking > > I am> > > > > > > having> > > > > > > > an anxiety attack. Peggy,

Yes, I did go to church this morning. I have been waiting to go to evening services, but today I got to go in the a.m. It is a fiasco trying to get up and get all the nebs and meds done....then get ready. I have to do a little at a time because everything I do makes my numbers go down.

But, it was good. The singing was so pretty. I try to get out early afterwards because I get so short of breath trying to talk to people.
