Elaine asked us not to do this. Perhaps you will do better on a WP diet.HI, I wanted to add my two cents to this.  I belong to the Weston A. Price Foundation and on their website or in the cookbook Nourishing Traditions you will find information for soaking and drying nuts to make them more digestible and I can personally attest tot his making a difference.  I ate a lot of raw almonds until I joined and started using their wisdom.  The dehydrated nuts are much easier on the gut and they make delicious breads and muffins.  It is more labor intense but the health benefits and end product make it worthwhile.  There are too many enzyme inhibitors in nuts so eating a lot raw, unprocessed is not recommended. Janice K.SCD 11monthsIBSNo Meds

I am sorry. I just assumed that if ground nuts were ok in making breads that ground nuts were ok in.

On another note this recipe it calls for using ground nuts mixed with a fruit as a topping simular to what a SAD crumbly dessert topping.

I am new. I apologize. I have read for many hours online and in the book but it is all new to me and some things are difficult for me to remember.

They are not legal.> How would you use soaked and dehydrated nuts in baking? I think you may have not finished a sentence in your last note. Ground

nuts are fine. If they are tolerated.

Your suggestion of the WAP/NT method of making them more digestible is

not out of line -- I just wanted people who may be new like yourself to

be aware of Elaine's concerns regarding it.

My feeling on this is that if you have tried nuts and have not tolerated

them, then certainly, try this method of preparing them, WITH ALL DUE

PRECAUTION, AND TAKING ELAINE'S CONCERNS INTO CONSIDERATION, and see if

it works for you.

If it does, spectacular!

Regrettably, I am not a biochemist, nor a specialist in gut biology as

Elaine was, so I don't have the ability to declare something

legal.

Can't tell you how much I miss being able to email Elaine with a question

like this.

Occasional discussions like this are fine -- but I don't want us to lose

sight of the primary function of this list, which is to support SCD.

<wicked grin> You ought to hear some of the discussions my husband

and I get into, and the way the topic drifts. Last night, we started out

with the Archangel 's sword, ambled through 18th Century medical

treatments, and ended up discovering there was an octogesimal scale

called Reaumer which was in common use about the same time that the

Fahrenheit scale came about, and then went from there to a discussion of

Kung Fu movies. In the space of three hours.

Given that I know my own propensity for topic drift, I have to be

somewhat strict around here.

There is so very much to learn when you are first reading BTVC and

perusing the web sites.

I think it's great that your husband is a compounding pharmacist. Perhaps

he's be able to answer some of our questions about things like that from

time to time.

And if you are also studying other web sites, and find something you

think may be helpful, this is good. So long as our focus remains on

SCD.

Did I remember to welcome you to the list? Come in, sit down, have a cup

of coffee, tea, or water... there's a nice table over there with all

sorts of SCD edibles, ingredients listed, so you can choose what you

tolerate. Cosy fire, comfortable chairs... and people ready to answer

questions, or listen to what you have to offer.
