Guest guest
The situation with Casodex always interests me. The major study of the effects of the drug were carried out in countries all over the world – mainly so called Third World countries – but not in the US. I was fortunate enough to get a copy of the study when it was published from a pal who was in the business. There were many aspects of the study that raised questions as far as I was concerned and indeed there were others who had similar concerns when we started discussing the study on the internet. An additional aspect in the discussion was the fact that there had been somewhat of an expose about the latitude given by the FDA to the changes in study results – manipulation of data etc – and there was some suggestion that the Casodex data had been spun somewhat to produce a better result and to minimize the side effects. Who knows if this was so, if the points we thought were valid were in fact valid, but it was interesting to see that the FDA in the USA only approved the 50 mg dose. What I found even more interesting was how quickly this restriction was overcome by the patient being prescribed triple single 50 mg doses i.e 150 mg in all – the level that seemed troublesome in the study, but the one adopted by Britain and, I think other countries in the world. So, what’s the right dose? I don’t know – it has never made sense to me tat one dose should fit all and the fact that the drug was tested in countries where the average size of men is very much smaller than the average US man also casts some doubt on the appropriate dose. I guess time might tell – but then again, maybe not. All the best Terry Herbert I have no medical qualifications but I was diagnosed in ‘96: and have learned a bit since then. Right. It's my understanding that it is not used on its own in the U.S. I don't know why practice would be different in the two countries, but it is my understanding that that is so. Of course the person who can answer this question for the patient in question is . , was your brother also given an injection of Lupron, Zoladex or Eligard? If not, then what I've said about hormone therapy not working for him is wrong. Alan
