Very interesing...! I am in a support group at the present time at Waukesha Pro Health Hospital, which i find very informative and a great help to hear experiences of the people that attend. I would

also attend a support group that would be comprised of those MEN WITH PROSTATE CANCER ...ALL MEN...as many in the Waukesha group bring their wives. I would PREFER an all male

group..where many of the sexual problems ..ED...can be discussed with just men...

To: ProstateCancerSupport Sent: Tue, April 27, 2010 5:31:06 PMSubject: American Cancer Society Gives in to Homophobia

In my dual role as director of Malecare and of The LGBT Cancer Project - Out With Cancer, over the years many well meaning people have emailed me, asking, "why do gay people need their own cancer survivor organization. " I got one such email this morning, just as I was composing the following. Just one of several similar "issues" I respond to every month. I hope you will find this enlightening. April 27, 2010 R. Seffrin, PhDChief Executive OfficerAmerican Cancer SocietyDear Dr. Seffrin:I write to you today with the hope of getting a greater understanding about why The American Cancer Society's Pinellas County branch canceled an LGBT-focused Relay For Life that was scheduled for March 21, 2010. As described by the event's organizer, Bobby Poth, American Cancer Society officials " were worried about how the general public would react to an LGBT-targeted event [and] allowed personal beliefs to play a role in that

fear, etc."Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered cancer survivors, their friends, family and care givers, deserve complete and unfettered support by all of us, including the American Cancer Society. Homophobia is vile and life threatening, particularly to those who are vulnerable because of ongoing health care treatment. Out With Cancer – The LGBT Cancer Project is our country's first and leading LGBT cancer survivor support and advocacy national nonprofit organization. We know that prejudice hurts LGBT cancer survivors, diminishing access to appropriate health care, elevating psycho-social stressors and reducing research into LGBT health care disparities. To see our country's largest cancer survivor nonprofit, the American Cancer Society give in to homophobia, is harmful to all of us.I look forward to your reply on this issue. Thank you for your consideration.Darryl Mitteldorf, LCSWExecutive DirectorOut With Cancer

Please share your experiences with laser treatments.

I was diagnosed a year ago almost to the day. I was 3+3 T1 with one malignant sample out of 12. I've been through a TUMT, which rendered me incontinent and impotent, as well as 44 radiation treatments. I'm happy to say the PSAs have been under .1, but as of yesterday the uro wants to do a laser treatment to open up the urinary channel. Apparently most men have a capacity of 400-450 cc in their bladders, and, after urinating twice, I was still retaining 500 cc of urine. After having been hustled into the TUMT, I'm not about to be rushed again. I'm 65, btw.

Can anyone tell me the downside of NOT having such a procedure? I can't be less continent than I already am. Is EVERY MD in this business a con man? I hate to assume that, but after going through four uro's, I don't know what to think.

I'd appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.

Tom,

retaining large amounts of urine in your bladder makes an ideal condition for

bacteria to grow. Given time, it can track back up to your kidneys, giving you

one hell of an infection, one that can threaten your kidney function, even your

life.

In addition, having your bladder constantly distended like that will make

getting back any kind of bladder control down the line more difficult.

If you're in doubt, get a second opinion.

Thanks, Dave. I've been on antibiotics off and on for the past several months, so I'm living proof of what you said. Good advice.

I'm just getting fitted today for the radiation treatments. So far the hormone shot has certainly decreased the libido...but I'm also 72...and the FLASHES are getting progressively worse. At this point, not having had any of the upcoming 30-35 radiation doses, I don't know what side affects will happen.

Hi Guys/Jim,

I had radiation and it was least painful, least invasive, least side affects for me treatment I have had in my whole life. I did not do my homework like you are doing. I lost some hair on my body but it was soo slow and I really did not notice much until I started growing it back. Like Alan said just do not move-maybe meditate or try to sleep. Not much can go wrong with it. I would suggest you find a book recommended and change to vegetarian now. I am not sure it will not help if it comes back or not but if I had known then what I know now I would have tried it.

Best of Luck,

Tom W.
