Hi !

I get Kirkland raw almonds from Costco (approximately $12.00 for 3 pounds) and put them in the blender and make my own almond flour. My son seems to tolerate this almond flour very well.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a healthy legal toothpaste without fluoride, carrageenan, xylitol, sodium lauryl? Thanks

Almond flour

Hi,

We're relatively new to this SCD diet and are ready to branch out to things with nuts.

Where do I get almond flour that's fresh? Are there certain brands that are better?

Does anyone make it themselves? If so, how. What is a good source of almonds.

Thanks in advance,

Ann

My understanding is that all

nuts should be soaked for at least eight hours and then dried to remove

what makes them less digestible for us. I began soaking and drying

last year and I must say I don't have any heavy feelings in my gut after

eating nuts like I used to.

Elaine did not like the idea of soaking and re-drying the nuts. First,

she felt it would add unnecessary additional work to the diet when there

is so much food preparation involved as it is. Second, she was

particularly that there was a high risk of mold, mildew, and bacterial

contamination if the procedure were not done correctly.

I purchase my almond flour from Lucy's Kitchen Shop, and my Pecan Flour

from Sunnyland Farms. I've never had any trouble digesting either of

those.

Having truly raw almonds would be very nice -- but almonds aren't carried

at my New Orleans area Farmers Markets, nor are they grown in Louisiana.

So it's put up with the pasteurized or do without.

Hi ,

At the beginning, it's best to grind your own just to see if you can

tolerate the nut flour. I suggest using blanched almonds. I used raw

almonds with the skins on at first, but the blanched make a nicer

(and probably easier to digest) flour. You can get blanched almonds

pretty cheap at Trader Joe's.

If you continue on the diet, many order from Lucy's Kitchen. I order

from an organic farm here California called Sun Organic Farms and

get 10 lbs. at a time, and freeze it in ziplocs, just like Ginger

mentioned she does.

If you have trouble with the flour, you can always start with baked

goods using almond butter or cashew butter. They are easier to

digest than the nut flours. My favorite is the German Coffee Cake

recipe on (I think) SCDrecipe.com.

Good luck!
