Perineal and Rectal pain

This is a common, but little known issue for a lot of people, not just post-prostate. There is a MAJOR nerve down there which can get injured for a lot of reasons.

Google perineal nerve pain, and you'll see groups that are on top of this issue.

THANK YOU...and so happy that what you have to deal with is working. There are so many choices of treatments.. and those performing them...and all you can do is HOPE FOR THE BEST and that you opted for the one that best suits your situation. IT ALSO SURE HELPS to keep GRATITUDE IN THE ATTITUDE...which I've learned having been in AA for 35 years. SOO we'll keep you in the prayers..and the NO incontinence and no bowel problems..is GOOD NEWS! My daughter works in a rehad hospital..and assures me..that NO MATTER WHAT ..it could be worse. SOO TRUE!

Thanks Jim...your are so right. Just deal with what IS! On that note...The methodone is working, at least so far better than the vicodin...and today starts the nerve blocks.Maybe we can be an example for those who do not get a 2nd opinion, and to also show how Prostate Surgery is never a straight forward EASY procedure. It was our fault totally, and we do not blame the surgeon. When one does this type of surgery, you are always a candidate to possibly be in the 1% that has complications of some sort. So much to be thankful for...that this is what we must focus on. Cancer gone, no bowel or urine incontinence at all!

My urologist is rated very high in Wisconsin... and has done over 400 procedures. with the radiologist

oncologist. I DOUBT they would have done what your husband had done with those numbers. BUT...you now have to try and fix what has been done. Thoughts and prayers are with you..andHIM! Jim

Husband had Gleason of 6 (3 + 3), and PSA of 2.1 After Surgery, PSA negligable, and cancer was in both sides of prostate but only 5% or total prostate. We were told this was the BEST SURGEON in for this type of surgery, and the best for him. OUR FAULT totally, never got a 2nd opinion.

psa..and gleason score ??? Just wondering if that was the reason for the election of that treatment.

My husband is 3 months post op from his RPP surgey.After many complications (Hemotoma at site of incision, catheter in for 7 weeks, with 1 week of sever bladder spasms) two weeks ago he began INTENSE rectal/perineal pain...not exterior (as from hemerroids) but more interior, and in perineal area of incision site. He is back on 2 Vicodiin 3 times a day to tolerate this. Was in emergency one day, and they did a CT scan that showed no surgical problem from what they could see. His surgeon finally referred him to a PAIN Doctor (in his same office) after we asked to have records sent to Mayo Clinic for second opinion.Now Pain dr wants to put him on methodone, nuerontin (which surgeon already had him on - just too small dosage) and to start nerve blocks on Monday.We do not want to do the Methodone until we go to Mayo for a second opinion. Vicodin helping most of the time...and possibly Neurtontin is too. My question is: Why not wait and see if

Neurontin is effective, and Nerve block...before Methodone treatments? NO ONE has even stated WhY he is having all this pain yet. Seems strange to me, to try and treat something you are not even sure of what is causing it.What do you think? Have not found anyone who has had this problem, but one case on the internet that suggest it could this be Pudendal nerve damage?
