Guest guest
Do any of you guys with RA have experience with repeated bouts of shingles? I was just wondering if they were in a lot more different places than the first time when they come back. BTW as an alert - if you have pain, not in the joints, usually on only one side of the body (for me it was the lower left in the front and the back of the torso) and then see even a small red rash it may be shingles. The first time I got it the rash I noticed after a week of pain was small and I thought it was just my waistband rubbing a little. It is very common in people with RA or who have a compromised immune system. Annette

Guest guest
Annette, Yes, I have had shingles a couple of times. My doc advised me to take selenium to help my immune system. Of course the dermatologist gave me a specific drug, Valtrex, for the shingles. I thought I had poison ivy and it was the shingles. The little red spots are very painful... Guest guest
I'm not familiar with shingles (and I hope it stays that way) but I do know that it is easy to get too much selenium. A little is required for proper body functioning but too much can be very bad. Please talk to your doctor or a nutritionist before taking a selenium supplement. There is often a little in a multivitamin and most (but not all) people don't need more. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay Simpson Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, August 29, 2004 5:39 PM Subject: Re: Shingles Annette, Yes, I have had shingles a couple of times. It is amazing how much pain they go through. You will want to build your mom's immune system. I gave my dad a tea made of Chamomile, Echinacea, Astragalus and St. s Wort. I had him drink it 2-3 times a day. The St. s Wort is recommended for neuralgic pain. It helped somewhat but not completely. I also had him on L-Lysine for a while which is supposed to help with eliminating the Shingles virus. It made Dad nauseaous so that was why I put the Chamomile in his tea. I haven't tried the deep tissue repair oil yet. Maybe someone else has had experience with nerve pain and had some successes that will be willing to share also. Good luck to your Mom! Guest guest
For neuralgic pain, I use lobelia, mullein and blue vervain, also oats (oatmeal). No experience with the rest of shingles, sorry. Guest guest
....GSO (grapefruit seed oil/extract) looks it might be another candidate... http://www.pureliquidgold.com/ There's a mention of use for chickenpox.... shingles is nothing more than a latent chickenpox virus ....
