Guest guest
Good Morning! I have been a little busy this last week. I had college start and was behind and then overwhelmed with all the homework and so exhausted after a days work and had to do homework. Not sure how I am going to manage all this but I will figure it out. I have been looking into all sorts of things trying to figure out as you know a diagnoses of whats wrong with me. Bruce I did take your suggestion and made an appt with a Neurologist about my migraine medication. My GP offered to switch it and " save me an appt with Neurology " I said we can switch it but I am still keeping my appt with Neuro! So she changed me from Verapamil CR 180mg once a day to propranolol twice a day(40 mg). All this for migraines. Well I said fine I will try it and see. The issue and the point of this email is before I started the propranolol my blood pressure would run a little low probably because I was taking blood pressure medication not for high blood pressure so I assume that is kind of normal. Well remember when I had the Pulmonary stress test and the doctor asked me if I had high blood pressure and I said no it should be low because I take Verapamil every day. He said well this is odd because your blood pressure started out low and with any exercise your going to 198/94 or something like that. I said hmm, dont know. Well I decided to get a blood pressure machine and monitor my pressure at home I am always feeling dizzy and light headed etc when up and moving around. Thursday evening: 140/99, 130/88, 124/90, 125/88,137/93 Friday morning: (about 30 minutes out of bed after sitting in the chair) 116/89 3:45PM 129/90 7:30PM 113/89 Saturday morning: 147/93 (this seems high for just being out of bed!) 10:35AM 120/89 Now I did some checking and of course the nurses at the clinic said to bring my machine in and do it there, because its always normal when I go in. I said because you have a human taking it manually, they dont have a machine or an automatic one, but their waiting room does, and they even have a sign on it this machine is VERY ACCURATE. Well if I take it on there my blood pressure is the same readings I get on mine. So the question is dont you all find this very ODD that I would have any bit of high blood pressure at all when especially I take medication for an unrelated thing so I should never have high blood pressure. Now I know its not the systolic one but its the dystolic one that bothers me! Any ideas? Thanks everyone. I have been reading the posts and just sitting here this morning wanting to scream because I cant believe how cruel some of this companies we all have to deal with are so cruel! Sandie Ps. I am on my way out to go to work at the restaurant have to cover one of the cooks today (hope I dont pass out because I feel like crap)
Guest guest
One thing you might try for the migraines - and this might sound a little off the wall - is keeping a food diary to see what you have eaten just in the day before the migraine triggers. My migraines were so bad for a while I was on seizure medicine in addition to the Verapamil. Then somebody recommended this simple food diary and I very quickly honed in on peanuts. They are not my only trigger and I might still have a migraine once or twice a year but it is impossible to know what is in everything we eat so I could be getting small amounts of peanuts in some food. It is a cheap, easy method and may not work for you but I am living proof it does. Sometimes our triggers are food. I have taken SO much Imitrex and other meds. Now I don't even have a prescription for migraines, either the prevention or of relief for them. You won't know if you don't try. Guest guest
Sandie, The blood pressure does NOT sound good! Don't ignore this young lady! Serious stuff. Is hypertension a noted side effect on your medication? Sounds like you need to blow out a few candles. It boggles my mind how you do so much. Guest guest
Hi Sandie, I'm glad you kept the appointment with the Neuro! He will know exactly on what medications you need to be on for the Migraines Headaches. For my Migraines Headaches, I take Tylenol#3, medication that was prescribed to me, by my specialist is called Midrin. It's not available in Canada though. It's a medication that's only available in the US and my dr is in the US too. I don't have any Blood Pressure problems, as it was explained to me because the body is feeling pain and I'm not feeling well, your blood pressure will be affected. My normal blood pressure is 120/80. When my blood pressure falls...I get very lightheaded and dizzy. I only have fainted once. For the blood pressure questions..... Mine can go as high 155/108 147/105 130/98 124/90 and my pulse can go as high as 124 and at the same time it can drop as low 90/66 and then I start feeling the chills/cold and it feels I'm living Antarctica lol! Guest guest
Sandie, If I can find it, I have a special diet on which foods to avoid eating when a person has Migraine Headaches. It was given to me by my dr. I you like, I can post. For about 1 year or so I had to follow it..started re-introducing foods to see if it would still cause me to have a Migraine Headache. Guest guest
Thanks but I only get one or two a year and I only get them after they pull me off my meds and usually only after I get out of the hospital, so it has something to do with stress. I am not an experimental person so I rarely try new things and I always know what I eat in a day since I dont eat much. But I will start keeping track to see if I can find a trigger some where along the way. Sandie > > > > Good Morning! I have been a little busy this last week. Guest guest
Sandie --Hi - My name is Sophie and I've been reading messages for a couple of months, but never posted one before, mainly because I didn't know how - still not sure. But I feel it's important to let you know that propranolol is actually considered a possible cause of IPF. The "Patient Information Handbook" put out by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (the place that directed me to this on-line support group), actually lists propranolol on page 12 of the handbook, as being a cause. I remembered this because I've had migraines all my life (I'm 65 now, and they are no longer so frequent, and not as painful), and in my 30's and 40's I took propranolol for the migraines. And the propranolol did help the headaches. But now, I'm wondering if it wasn't the main cause of my IPF (diagnosis 2005). Please check with your Pulmo. about the propranolol. - Sophie IPF/2005. Hugs, Joyce D.PULMONARY FIBROSIS/LUPUS 1997 BRONCHIECTASIS 2004 INDIANA 2 COR. 12:10 ....when I am weak, then I am strong>> Sandie --Hi - My name is Sophie and I've been reading messages for a couple of months, but never posted one before, mainly because I didn't know how - still not sure. But I feel it's important to let you know that propranolol is actually considered a possible cause of IPF. The "Patient Information Handbook" put out by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (the place that directed me to this on-line support group), actually lists propranolol on page 12 of the handbook, as being a cause.> I remembered this because I've had migraines all my life (I'm 65 now, and they are no longer so frequent, and not as painful), and in my 30's and 40's I took propranolol for the migraines. And the propranolol did help the headaches. But now, I'm wondering if it wasn't the main cause of my IPF (diagnosis 2005). Please check with your Pulmo. about the propranolol. - Sophie IPF/2005.>
