Guest guest
Cyndie-- I just happen to be going through the online transcript (thanks Marti) from Dr. Welker's last support group meeting where this subject was discussed. Here's what was reported: "Dr. Welker says approx. 4% of DS patients have to be revised to keep them from losing too much, including those who had the (now virtually never done) distal operations which left only a 50 cm common channel, so that number is expected to drop quite a bit when there aren't those patients in the mix. He also said this operation isn't only for weight loss, it's also for people who have a high lipid condition for which there is no other known cure, and that those people (who weren't obese pre-op) tended to average a weight GAIN of 3#, so it seems the gut tends to adapt to absorb the amount of energy your particular body needs to absorb." How's that for an immediate, succinct answer?! Jill Welker's first lap DS 9/27/00 down 30 pounds in three weeks
