I"M 73...and my psa went from 2 to 16 in 9 months..and opted for the hormone/external radiation treatment. SURE GLAD I DID...as the side effects are hot flashes and difficult peeing..but very manageable..! My life style changed very little..as I work 3/4 time...play tennis and do aerobics at the Y with the SENIOR GROUP! So if ANY QUESTIONS..just let me know...

Subject: Stop PCa Testing After 75? No!To: ProstateCancerSupport Date: Sunday, June 6, 2010, 9:21 PM

As folks may recall the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recently recommended that geezers over 75 years of age should not be tested for PCa because it's a waste of money. Here's another view from Duke University Medical Center:"Public survey and survival data do not support recommendations to discontinue prostate-specific antigen screening in men at age 75.""Conclusion: Men presenting to our PSA screening clinic disagreed with discontinuation of screening at age 75. Men aged >or= 75 years had higher risk disease and poorer survival. The USPSTF recommendation was supported neither by public opinion nor disease risk and survival results."See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez and search on 19815259.Regards,Steve J
