Guest guest
Irene... I don't like all the drama we must face with this damn disease. We live in an apt. complex and whenever an ambulance comes (lots of elderly here) everyone is outside 'watching'. I went out in one once and I wanted to holler out, "There's nothing here to look at ladies!" You no doubt didn't like the onlookers when the ambulance came to get you either. Guest guest
Sher, The ambulance and the Fire Department came at work and I asked them to go from the back, so nobody would see anything except for the security guard which had to let them in. Actually when I do call for an ambulance at my apprtment complex there's no onlookers because the paramedics or the fire department sends them away. To give them room to pass..... Guest guest
Thank youTina. You take care of yourself too. I was very scared, especially in the ambulance, not my first time though in an ambulance there have been other instances. Paramedics though they kept comfortable and kept on talking to me, so I won't lose consciousness. We got to talk about the cheapest flights, showed them pictures of my hand, we talked about the Alamo, Dallas, vacation spots etc... Irene ---- Original Message ---- To: Breathe-Support Sent: Sat, 19 Jan 2008 12:13 am Subject: Re: ((((Leanne, Bruce, Peggy, Sher, Gwynne & May) Irene: I was so sad when I heard you had to be taken to the hospital. I remember my first trip by ambulance to the hospital with breathing difficulties. I remember how scared I was. It was on January 5, 2007, just 4 days after my brother passed away, and the very evening I had returned to West Virginia from Ohio where the funeral was held. The treatment I received at the hospital sounds very much like what they did to you. I received breathing treatments, oxygen, more breathing treatments, x-rays, and other diagnostic tests to rule out different things. But that was the start of my road to IPF. Thereafter, I was sent to my new family doctor, from there to a pulmonologist, from there to a surgeon for the open lung biopsy, back to the pulmonologist and on April 21, 2007, received the news of this disease. The hardest part for me was telling my family because we had just dealt with the loss of my brother just a few months earlier. He had brain cancer which was diagnosed in June of '06 and died on January 1, 2007. The roller coaster we ride on never seems to end. I also sympathize with you regarding your work situation. I worked until May of '06 and I never missed a day in five years, other than the birth of my son in '02 (and returned to work when he was 4 days old!) and then a hysterectomy surgery in '05. I went to work when I was sick and shouldn't have. I went to work every day that I felt bad. I went to work because I needed my paycheck and I needed my job! My boss wasn't flexible and there was no one to cover for me if I was not there. It was a one girl office. I look back now and wish I had put my health first. And, when I finally did leave that job, I told my boss it was because I had to take care of myself, first and foremost. Anyway, I know there are reasons you have to be there, but do take care of yourself.
