Guest guest
, Why give up coffee? Is there a caffine link I don't know about with aggravating RA? I'm in trouble if there is... Also, did the Dr. tell you to quit running or did you just quit due to pain? Thanks for the info... Rie > , > > I had to give up running so now I am trying yoga and pilates. I switched to de-caf coffee (which I'm really not allowed due to a stomach condition - but a person needs their treats!) I'm not trying to belittle our condition - cause we all know it is a pain (ha, ha, no pun intended) > > > > > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.726 / Virus Database: 481 - Release Date: 22/07/2004
Guest guest
Rie, The Arthritis Society here says that caffine can aggrivate RA and make flare ups worse - I don't know if this is true or not but an ounce of prevention and all that. There is also a link between RA flare ups and "nightshade" vegetables (mushrooms, eggplant, tomatoe). At the confrence in September, one of the talks is on RA and food - so I will know more then. I am hoping maybe they are wrong - I love!! coffee! The doctor and rhuematologist both said I had to stop running after the RA moved into my ankles - as well they were swelling up like potatoes after I even went for a long walk. They suggested low impact exercising. Hope that helps ----- Original Message ----- From: ravencache Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, August 29, 2004 12:20 AM Subject: Re: coffee? ,Why give up coffee? Guest guest
There seem to be a lot of studies that show potential links between caffine, nightshare vegetables and various other things and flare ups. However, from what I've read none of them have shown a definite conclusion that holds true for all people with RA. Like other food sensativities and allergies, I tihnk it's very individual. While I don't drink coffee, I do get caffine from tea and/or diet coke - and haven't noticed any connection to flare ups for me. Likewise with the nightshade vegetables. I grow tomatoes in the summer and absolutely gorge myself at times with the fresh from the garden bounty. It sometimes causes canker sores from the acid, or a stomach ache, but not a flare up. For some people, however, either of these or other things could be a trigger. I wouldn't worry so much about what the studies show, as what works (or doesn't) for you. Guest guest
I have felt that when I eat dairy, my RA flares up somewhat. I am allergic to the protein in the dairy and maybe that is why I feel more pain in my hands. ----- Original Message ----- From: " oregonbeth " <broot@...> <Rheumatoid Arthritis > Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 9:28 PM Subject: Re: coffee? > There seem to be a lot of studies that show potential links between > caffine, nightshare vegetables and various other things and flare > ups. Guest guest
I can't handle cow milk but use a little soy milk. I dearly love cheese and have not given that up. I quit all caffeine and soft drinks and only drink water these days... Down to one anti-inflammatory a day and take a lot of vitamin C, fish oil, antioxidant berry juice, and probiotics. Guest guest
Hi Kay, I too, eat cheese (if it is cooked, it does not have a bad effect on me). In my cereal, I use Rice Dream instead of milk. I am also allergic to soy. Everyday I take Omega 3 flax seed oil caps and one Vit E, Vit C and multiple vitamins by Twin Lab. It is very important for me to take Calcium, Vit D and Magnesium, if not, I get terrible cramps in my back, neck and legs. I have RA and also have Fibromylagia. If I get in terrible muscle pain and headache, I take a Benadryl and that relieves it. Coffee does not bother me at all. I only drink 2, maybe 3 cups a day at the most. I think RA is way too powerful just for supplements and diet to control, at least for me. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Kay Simpson " <Siwelyak@...> <Rheumatoid Arthritis > Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 10:58 PM Subject: Re: Re: coffee? > > I can't handle cow milk but use a little soy milk. Guest guest
Hi, Caffeine does not affect everyone, I found it was a big factor in my case so stopped. Why not just stop for a week or two, if you don't feel any different then there is no need to give it up. BTW, I switched to decaf , I couldn't give coffee up altogether ...lol Lynne x
Guest guest
Eva, What is Rice Dream? I drink milk in the mornings and hot cocoa at night. I have extreme pain in my lower back. I'm pretty fortunate as I rarely have pain in my joints. I have been taking Glucosoman for two years but it doesn't do a thing for my back.........Joyce ----- Original Message ----- From: " Eva " <maggieandme@...> <Rheumatoid Arthritis > Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 11:59 PM Subject: Re: Re: coffee? Coffee enemas have been proven effective and have been used since WWII (they were even give to soldiers). They detox the liver you can find a lot of info on the web or in books to support this. _jason_ _________ ________ _______ _____ ____ ___ __ _ _ _
