Bruce I have been on those packs before and you will be fine. Its

the very large doses of over 100 for a few days that you start to go

goofy. Some people experience that with smaller doses I know but I

think most people have to be on it for a period of time. And I know

the avoiding thing as well its a drug I dont take. Hang in there and

as long as you are cautious with what your eating you should be ok,

be careful though the food just sneaks up on ya!

Bruce... I'm glad there is something you can take to address the lung problem.

I did take prednisone for short periods and found absolutely no side effects! It's the long term that worries me. 6 days shouldn't be too bad for you. I felt so much better and then the pred. was over. I'd do that again any time.

I'm praying that this will be the right thing and you will respond and heal!

Ok, so you're a guy. What the hell, I'm sending a warm hug your way too!

Six Days of Steroids.....Don't want to but guess I have no choice

Been trying to avoid but guess I'll start tomorrow. 6 Days of Methylprednisolone 4MG Dospak 21's. Plus I don't even eat all these meals it says to take before and after. But, lung problem from Dec 31 not going away on Levaquin so here I go. Day 1-24MG, Day 2-20MG, Day 3-16MG, Day 4-12MG, Day 5-8MG Day 6-4MG. I know its not a lot but my doctors have worked so hard to avoid steroids on me. Reading the side effects, particularly the mood ones. Now if I got the euphoria, I could go for that one....lolI'm sure many of you have taken this Regimen. Any experiences on these short dosages? I know compared to those of you who have taken long large quantities its nothing. But with my mental illness history its still pretty frightening.

Bruce, I am the one with every BAD symptom from pred.- very sensitive to it. I just had to do a course of it too.a few weeks ago and all I noticed is I began craving sweets but resisted. The mood thing didn't bother me on a short dose. It is important because it is the best to kick an infection. I'll be praying for you. Ahhhhhhhh.

Maybe I'm even luckier than most on this board as one of the few guys

surrounded by such a group of incredible women.

That brings up an interesting question as to why not more men. I don't

know the breakdown male versus female with the disease. I do however

think men probably less inclined to open up and discuss in the manner

we do. Too bad. Just a simple thing like six days of steroids starting

tomorrow I don't have to do alone. A much more complicated thing like

Tracleer, Tina and, if she decides, Joyce don't have to do alone.

I read today on another board where a man just died and had been

diagnosed for over two years and never told his wife or allowed his

doctor to do so. Omg, this disease is a monster. But, how sad for all

those out there having to face it by themselves.

I'd just hate to think of facing it without this board. I'm also glad

all my friends and family know. I don't hide any of it or avoid it. My

exwife and I may go somewhere over her spring break. We were planning

Disneyworld but its spring break for everyone this year it seems and

would be a nightmare. But, she knows as do I without saying it because

we've honestly discussed the disease, that we don't know about my

ability to do so next year or the year after. None of us can even be

sure we can make it to San , but sure as heck not going to miss

it if I can and just say, oh well, I'll make the next one.

With Leanne now too healthy for transplant we may need a tracking

device to keep up with her. Leanne with Lojack...lol

And I do intend to hug everyone there. Hope all the husbands

understand. There's a feeling I think between those of us in the group

that no one outside could ever comprehend completely. Last night over

dinner, I was talking with my ex-wife. She talked about the kids at

school. I talked about things going on here. She fussed about all the

class time missed by the soccer team, I fussed about Apria. She shared

the pain of a friend's father just diagnosed with cancer. I shared

worries about friends here. She told hilarious stories about good

students. I told ones about friends here.

Peggy

Thanks. And as to the mood, just in case, starting on a day I see my

counselor, seeing her the day after I finish, and if needed between

she's available. So, not expecting problems on this short run, but

covering myself in case.

Craving sweets. Not sure I could ever tell a difference. Although, I

did once try Zyprexa for sleep and while I had vision issues from it

and stopped quickly, omg, the carb cravings. Every moment you felt

like if you couldn't have a dozen candy bars or at least a full

chocolate cake you'd die. Fortunately, my counselor (not the

prescribing psychiatrist) warned me. I knew one girl who gained 10

pounds in one week on it before she said " no more. "

Was going to take Disney trip in March until we found out it was spring

break for everyone in the world and may be one of their busiest weeks

ever. Really disappointing to me. Plan was week of March 16-22. Now

trying to decide if someone else to go or when I want to take a trip to

NC and if I do that if I might swing by Disney or not. But had already

looked at each Disney park and determined what I most wanted to see.

Bruce when I went on pred. it was 60 mg a day and gained 70 pounds in 7 or 8 weeks. I ate POUNDS of spearmint leaves and orange slices. Oh I can still remember thinking I'll only eat 4 of each. I did well for 5 min then it was 4 of each. Oh did I ever have a shock when two short months had passed. Haven't been able to loose most of it. I figure at this stage in my life to just be happy. I have quit baking and the sweets only happen when company comes. I am sure you'll do fine for a short time.  Love and Prayers, Peggyipf 6/04Worry looks around.Sorry looks back,Faith looks up.

Bruce, on that short of a regiment and those low doses, you should be

fine. The problems usually occur on very high doses for extended

periods of time.

You WILL be hungry around the 3rd day....fair warning! LOL!

Hope it works and you kick that nasty infection!

Hugs!

Thanks. Right now I'm so angry at Aetna, Cigna and the Ontario Public

Health System, not sure I'd even notice if the prednisone did

anything. But, I know those are all completely justifiable angers.

Hungry.....yes, well, I can take that for a few days. Maybe I won't

forget to eat that way. Yes, today I had to take before breakfast,

after lunch, after dinner, before bedtime. Three meal? OMG, been a

long time since I did that.
