Guest guest
, Ask the doctor if they can/will use Versed instead. It works great and the main side effect is short term memory loss, from when they get the med to when it wears off. had this when they put his last Picc line in and he did not remember a thing. Was not afraid of the doctor or nurse when they came to see him the next day (which if he had remembered he would have wanted nothing to do with them). And they gave this in his Picc line when he had his bronc done the next day, again, no problems at all. Was not afraid of the doctor and was happy to see him. Just voice your concerns and ask them to use this instead. You have a say in what types of meds you will allow your child to take and if they want to give one that can compromise her respiratory, you have a right to ask about a different med being used. Well just my opinion. Take care, Daelynn, mom of 11, Clayton 9 and 4-2/3 wcf Chloral hydrate >From: tripletmom@... > >I have a question about chloral hydrate. I have been reading some material which states that this is not a safe drug to use for sedation for a person with respiratory problems. In fact, a person in Australia has informed me that it has been taken off the market there except in extreme circumstances. has been sedated with this drug in the past for CTs and ABRs. Her SATs always plummet making her require the use of oxygen for the entire procedure. In fact, they usually have her in the ICU just in case. She is due to have another ABR next week which they will use chloral hydrate to sedate her. I am growing concerned. Anyone have any information on this? Guest guest
Hi , I just wanted to say that Kodey used Chloralhydrate for sedation for everything when he was younger. As he grew the only problems we had with it was he wouldn't stay " out " for very long. He never experienced any respiratory problems b/c of it. He also had some versade on occasion and never had any problems with that either. Now, I know another family that their little guy has really bad respiratory reactions to versade. Almost like he's allergic or something. I just think it's a different case for everyone. Just depends on what your child will " react " to and how. Did any of that make any sense? ) Have a good night. mom of 2 boys Kodey almost 6yowcf coughing his head off, and r 2 1/2yowocf Chloral hydrate >From: tripletmom@... > >I have a question about chloral hydrate. Guest guest
, Choral hydrate has always worried me too. Two of my children have had to take it and they react to it similarly. For a CT scan about a year ago they overmedicated him. But he is very sensitive to these type drugs because in November when he had another CT they used Versed because he already had a line and they were in a hurry and didn't want to wait for choral hydrate to work and he slept for twenty four hours. However, I have several friends and aquaintenances that have used both Choral hydrate and Versed, among others, for various procedures and have not had a bit of trouble. So, as someone else was mentioning, it is probably just what each individual child can tolerate. Maybe you can address this with the radiologist or pulm and see if something else can be tried. Best wishes. I have been really thinking about you guys. I hope it goes well this week. Guest guest
, Hi! and Mallory only had chloral hydrate during their pneumograms when they were tiny infants....they wanted to use it for a hearing test on Mallory at age one month and we refused.... The wonderful NP who does the pneumograms ( " Lucky " ) at UT said it is basically " conscous " sedation with few risks, that they use it frequently on neonates! They refused to give the other stuff people on the list mentioned to Mallory and to prior to surgery at childrens, for Mallory b/c of her history of RAD and bronchospasms and because of a documented hx of bradycardia.... so we have no experience with that (they gave them shots of atripan? I think, instead....and its not a sedative at all....) Take care and when are you coming to Knoxville again??????? Jen
