One thing that I found interesting in this report of six new

drugs is that they include five different kinds of therapy,

including:

Chemotherapy (cabazitaxel)

Cancer vaccine (Prostvac)

Testosterone inhibitor (abiraterone, TAK700)

Testosterone uptake blocker (MDV3100)

Internal bone radiation (Alpharadin)

It is possible that MDV3100 won't work if abiraterone or TAK700

don't work, but the others all attack the cancer in different

ways. It would seem, in theory at least, that a patient could

try one, get all the benefit from it that he gets, then try the

next one, and so on. Using a drug from one of the categories

should not (again in theory) develop any resistance to any of the

others.

So this is better news than any one of the drugs by itself would

represent.
