Does anyone have a good, sympathetic to wls surgery pcp, who works in NYC? I am not insured--yet--and will get my insurance based on what the Doctor accepts. So I am starting to get my ducks in a row. >> Hi, Deborah. I don't know where you live specifically, but if it's Brooklyn, MY PCP is great. He's the one that suggested the surgery! No problem getting the referral, etc. His name is Moretti. He is on Fort Hamilton parkway. As far as WLS-friendly doctors in Manhattan, sorry. Maybe someone else can help you there? But, Dr. Moretti has had five patients before me undergo the surgery (rny, actually). And, if I get the ds (I have an initial consult with Dr. Gagner on Nov. 15), I'll be the first of his patients in that department! all the best,

I have told my 7 year old. I wasn't going to tell him until later but he asked me if I was always going to be " fluffy " . I asked him about what he thought about my weight and he said he didn't want me to be fat anymore. He was hugging me at this point. I told him that I had plans for a surgery that would help me lose weight. He seemed okay with this and very happy.. I didn't want to scare him with the details of course. What have been reactions from all of your kiddies? >> : What a good question! I've mentioned to Camille (she's almost 4) that I want to have surgery to not be fat. She is still so young, I just mention that I'll be in the hospital for awhile. Since I don't even have a surgery date yet (initial consult with Dr. GAgner on Nov. 15), I haven't really stressed this. But, since I will be in the hospital for 4 days or so, I know I need to prepare her. I know she will be stressed out and miss me tremendously. I also have a 1 1/2 year old son. Not only do I have to think about telling them and preparing them -- I have to arrange for proper backup care during my entire recovery since I'm a stay-at-home (homeschooling) mom. I'm really interested in others' experiences on this topic! all the best,
